  • Family site in the south of the Hautes-Alpes, 2 kilometres from Rosans
  • 200 metres from a lake and 300 metres from a play and farm park
  • Pool, library, restaurant, bowling and weekly events
Hikers: sorted. Cyclists: similarly. Get prepped for trips by foot or wheels from Camping des Rosières: this handsome Hautes-Alpes site is on the GR 91, the 91-kilometre trail running from Brantes to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. And should you need yet more activity sorted, trails of all types are in the surrounding Baronnies Provençales Natural Regional Park. As it's in the Haute-Alpes, you may reckon that Camping des Rosières is above sea level. And how right you'd be, for its five hectares sit at 600 metres altitude; climbing, via ferrata and canyoning are of course other popular pastimes in these parts. It's a 200-metre stroll from these green and peaceful grounds to a scenic lake as well, and 300 metres to an farm and leisure park with games, activities and ziplining – and then there's pony rides, donkey rides, birdwatching, paragliding, a lakeside beach... book a couple of weeks. A nice selection of leisurely options is around the site too, from a heated outdoor pool for splashing in and sunbathing alongside, to bowling, ping pong or just settling down in the library. Events including karaoke, paella nights and dance parties are held weekly and the restaurant is open daily. Camping des Rosières is a couple of kilometres from its nearest village Rosans, where the curious can meet local producers of goats' cheese, lavender and pottery. Regular events are held in the village too: ask on site when you arrive to see what's on during your stay.

Local attractions

Stride off along the GR 91, along the river, deep into the mountains or just on a general amble around the scenic narrow streets of Rosans, among arched alleyways, fountains and the Castle of Lesdiguières castle. Guided tours of the village run daily in summer from the Rosans museum. A cracking local option for a day trip is Plan d'Eau du Riou (35 minutes' drive), a lake surrounded by mountains and with its own sandy beach. Or make your way to the Gorges de la Méouge (50 minutes), for hiking trails, small beaches, wild swimming and waterfalls among spectacular scenery; cameras essential here. Department capital Gap is just over an hour away.
