  • Peaceful family-friendly campsite in the Luberon Regional Nature Park
  • Le Rocher de Bellevue five minutes’ drive; Gordes 25 minutes
  • Swimming pools, sport facilities, bar and restaurant on site
Picking a spot for some time spent exploring the wild landscapes of Provence – or maybe touring some of its pretty villages? Camping Le Luberon is an apt choice indeed, in a spot that’s centrally located within the Luberon Regional Natural Park and about five minutes’ drive from the lovely old town of Apt. This family-friendly site makes an excellent base for days spent wandering around hilltop villages like Gordes (25 minutes’ drive) and Roussillon (20 minutes). It’s also a fine choice for walkers, cyclists, mountain bikers, trail runners and climbers – all of whom can ask at reception for hiking guides and off-road trails as well as personalised advice on where’s best to go. Back at base, there’s plenty of shade to relax in (with hammocks strung between the trees for a most enticing siesta spot), or you can keep the activity going with ping-pong tables, table football and a pétanque court (plus a daily programme of kids’ activities in summer). The site also has two heated swimming pools and a paddling pool where toddlers and novice swimmers can splash about safely. Come dinner time you can grab a table at the poolside restaurant or pick up bits from the on-site shop and do your own thing. The restaurant terrace is also the place for a cool glass of chilled rosé wine from the bar, and reception will take your orders for fresh bread for the next morning’s breakfast.

Liked: de rustige bosrijke camping. Ruim opgezette plaatsen. Zeer vriendelijk personeel. De sanitair is zeer schoon. Prachtig zwembad en rustbos met hangmatten.

Disliked: Voor deze tijd is het wel zonde dat je geen toiletpapier bij de toilet hebt.

Local attractions

If you fancy taking a walk or bike ride in the Luberon Regional Natural Park, have a chat with the team at reception – they’ve got all the local info you need, including trail guides, and can point you in the direction of something suitable for your requirements. Plateau des Claparèdes (10 minutes’ drive) is a popular pick, or you may prefer to take a colourful walk through the area’s lavender fields – perhaps stopping in at Musée de la Lavande Luberon (half an hour) to learn a bit about what you’re seeing. The geology of the area is pretty interesting around here – especially if you take a trip to Le Rocher de Bellevue (five minutes), up on a scenic hilltop, look out for the troglodyte caves near Rocsalière (10 minutes) or take a tour of the underground tunnels at Mines de Bruoux (15 minutes). For man-made attractions, take a wander around the cathedral in Apt (five minutes) or visit the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque (35 minutes), a 12th-century building surrounded by lavender fields.
