  • Secluded woodland site in the middle of Luberon Natural Regional Park
  • In ochre hills with a backdrop of the Vaucluse mountains
  • Outdoor pool, café, volleyball, badminton and playroom
If your major requirements for holiday happiness are a comfy bed, a pool to laze by and enough on hand to keep the kids occupied, it’s likely that you’ll give a thumb aloft to La Colline des Ocres. You may well even go for the double hander upon learning that they’ll also throw in woodland views, a poolside restaurant and easy access to a plethora of family-friendly activities nearby... There’s a properly peaceful vibe over here, thanks to the backdrop provided by the Luberon Natural Regional Park and the peaks of the Vaucluse mountains. Start your hol with a day or two on site, to have a dip in that aforementioned pool – a fab outdoor number flanked by a sun terrace with plenty of shaded spots for the fair of face. Table tennis, volleyball and badminton are also available; there's a library to aid your poolside reading, and a games room and playroom supply more bits and bobs for kids. Each lodge has its own kitchen so those of a culinary disposition can create their own eats; the nearest supermarket and shops are about 15 minutes' drive away. If you’d prefer to go into full holiday mode, delegate cooking duties to the on-site restaurant during the summer months, especially fab on a warm day when you can take your plates out on to the covered terrace.

Local attractions

Walking and cycling trails are easily accessed from La Colline des Ocres – the GR 6, GR 97 and GR 9 all pass through this area (just look out for the red and white markers along the trails). Horse riding is a popular way to get out and about her too; several outfitters within a half-hour drive can hook you up with lessons or treks according to your experience. Lots of local trails cater for cyclists, and there's a BMX park a few minutes away where you can test your off-road skills. If you’d prefer to make like a bird and fly through the trees, take on one of the canopy tours at Colorado Aventures, 15 minutes away. Going higher up still, you can take to the skies with a hot air balloon flight from Roussillon, 25 minutes or so from the site, or go paragliding from Rustrel, 10 minutes away. Those who aren't such fans of heights can instead look up into the skies at the Sirene observatory, half an hour from the site: visit during the day to see the instruments up close or look out for one of the special events to view the night sky.
