What a location (location location)... Cádiz's Camping Caños de Meca is in the heart of the sparkling Andalusian coastline of the Costa de la Luz, near Cádiz town and Cape Trafalgar, on the western edge of La Breña and Marismas Natural Park, and near trad Spanish villages like Barbate, Vejer and Conil. And it's surrounded by the wide sandy beaches and clear clear waters of the Costa de la Luz: it's enough to make you lulz in glee. Trekking, mountain biking and horse riding are all close by from this quiet and family-friendly park, which is set in the midst of a mammoth pine forest to meander through on days not doing any of the above. The site is run by a team with over 30 years' experience and has a pool for big and little folk, a launderette, a supermarket, a playground and blocks with disabled-friendly facilities and a family washroom. For Andalusian eats, Camping Caños de Meca has well-maintained shared barbecue facilities, and regional dishes, tapas, sandwiches and set menus in the site restaurant.

Route directions

By car: On the N340 or A48 take the exit signposted Vejer de la Frontera and continue on the A-2233 following directions to Caños de Meca. By plane: Jerez airport is the closest airport, 65km away from the campsite. By train: San Fernando train station is 38km away. By bus: There are daily connections from Seville, Jerez, Madrid and Barcelona to San Fernando. Buses operates from here to Caños de Meca. Please ask the driver to get off in Zahora.

Loads and loads to see nearby, so let's get started... as well as the trekking, riding and biking of the Breña y Marismas natural park, viewsome scenes can be had from Camping Caños de Meca's nearby cliffs and two watchtowers. (Fact fans: the watchtowers, sixteenth century Torre del Tajo and nineteenth century Torre de Meca, were used to protect the coast from pirate attacks.) The nearby hilltop village of Vejer de la Frontera is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the place to go for those who dig Arabian and Andalusian architecture. More ancient stones are at 3,000 year old Cádiz, the fishing town with fortified walls, traditional Andalusian neighbourhoods, cathedral and the Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology. Other recommended highlights are the castle of Guzmán el Bueno, the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, the Rock of Gibraltar, the old sherry-producing cellars Jerez de la Frontera and the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art with a unique dance show. Also in the area, see the fishing village of Barbate; the villages of Zahara de los Atunes and Tarifa; the town of Conil de la Frontera and its six beaches, and, by ferry from Algeciras, the north African towns of Ceuta and Tangier.
