  • Shady motorhome pitches in Andalusia’s Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park
  • Olive-grove walks from the site; Iznájar Reservoir 15 minutes’ drive
  • Pico de la Tiñosa views; pool; communal barbecues and restaurant
Set deep in Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, Cortijo La Presa is a true Andalusian hideaway. Here you can spend your family holiday surrounded by olive groves, with a spectacular backdrop of Pico de la Tiñosa – the highest mountain in Córdoba Province – thrown in for good measure. The motorhome pitches at this gorgeous estate – set around an 18th-century Andalusian country house – are shaded by olive trees, and chances are the only sounds you’ll hear are the chirping of birds, bleating of goats and neighing of the resident horses. Daily life on site centres around the seasonal outdoor pool, where you can laze on loungers on sun decks with mountain views while keeping an eye on the kids as they romp around the playground. If dogs are travelling with you, there are several routes through the estate’s olive groves to keep them (and the family) well exercised too. As far as catering concerns go, get grilling on the guest barbecues and make new friends when you eat at the communal covered dining area. If you’d rather forget all about cooking (you’re on holiday, remember?), book 48 hours in advance for breakfast or supper at Restaurante Cortijo La Presa, where regional and international dishes are served. Staff members are happy to provide tourist information, advise on local hiking or biking routes and organise mountain-bike rental for you.

Local attractions

The Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park is a haven for walkers – and in fact you can hike to the summit of Tiñosa straight from the pitches. You can of course also hit the countryside by bike, and follow trails for all levels of ability through the olive groves and mountain foothills. Horse riding, rock climbing or bouldering can also be arranged by request. Iznájar Reservoir (15 minutes’ drive) is the hub for water sports off sandy Playa de Valdearenas beach (20 minutes), as well as birdwatching for eagles and vultures playing high in the thermals. In the waterside town of Iznájar, the impressive cliff-top Castillo de Iznájar (also 20 minutes) was built in the eighth century, and is open for explorations of its ramparts and ruined courtyards. Cortijo La Presa also makes a handy base for a touring holiday of Andalusia’s best-known attractions, as the historic cities of Granada (the spectacular Alhambra), Córdoba (the Mezquita) and Málaga (Picasso-related art museums) can all be reached in under 90 minutes. If you’re looking to visit a famed Andalusian ‘white village’, pretty flower-bedecked Zuheros and its landmark Moorish castle are just under an hour away.
