Have a hol at 'Madrid Beach' while pitching up away from a busy capital with a stay at Camping La Ardilla Roja: its countryside setting near the small Madrid province town of San Martín de Valdeiglesias is right by the San Juan Reservoir, aka the nicely-named Madrid Beach. (It's so scenic around here that many Madrilenians wisely make their way to the reservoir for active or relaxed breaks.) All is handy on site for a comfy and chilled out stay: you'll have access to a decently-sized pool as well as well-kept facilities including separate female and male toilets, a disabled wetroom, a laundry and a washing-up area. La Ardilla Roja also has a café bar: perhaps for a sweetly cool tinto de verano after a long lazy dip in the pool…?

Local attractions

Camping La Ardilla Roja is a 400-metre amble to the San Juan Reservoir or Madrid Beach for lazy days strolling around it, swimming in it or canoeing, windsurfing or waterskiing on its surface. The surrounding area is also a popular pick for cycling and horse riding; climbing is also available nearby. The town of San Martín de Valdeiglesias is the closest to the campsite for cafés and restaurants; it also has a fifteenth century castle, and is within easy reach of other Comunidad de Madrid settlements like El Tiemblo, Villa del Prado, Cadalso de los Vidrios and Pelayos de la Presa. Also – of course – have a day in Spanish capital Madrid about an hour away, for many topping sights such as Spain's biggest urban park in the Casa de Campo (cable car trip essential); the National Library of Spain, and lounging around the city's several plazas, possibly with another tinto de verano.
