  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful view and no road noise. On a public footpath, so good for dog walking. Access to water is good and there is also a little play area for kids. The showers looked great apart from the mess left by grass and mud. It would be nice to have a mop left put so we can clean up after ourselves.

Disliked: People in caravans were parking cars on other pitches and some pitches were not vacated in time so we struggled to find our hard standing pitch with electric. The level was quite extreme and ok if you have legs on a caravan but it was too steep for our leveling chocks so we had a very sloping stay, we were still at level -3 length wise and 2 width wise on our spirit levels even after being at full height with our ramps. Not good if you have balance issues. Also kids were using the shower blocks and toilets for hide and seek, so they were full of grass and mud which was disappointing as they were very good showers and with complete privacy I might add. I didn't see any member of staff through out our stay. Would have been helpful to know which pitch was which. Other users had off lead dogs that were quite noisy and consistently Barking. There is a sign for other dog walkers that use the footpath going through to keep their dogs on a lead, so a bit unfair for them.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Having read reviews after I’d booked I was worried about the state of facilities but, other than a little mud in the showers doorway, as expected. Facilities were in good condition.

Disliked: Dogs were free roaming everywhere. Not so much as an inch of flat level space. So spent all night sliding down the tent. Not enough space to get pitched because people spread out more than necessary. Very loud and noisy site.

Liked: What a lovely site this is!! Perfect uninterrupted views, lots of safe space for the kids to run around with the bonus of a small play area. The location is fab, can’t wait to come back and stay. Facilities are basic but clean, I really can’t fault this place.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely campsite in a beautiful location. If you like a relaxed atmosphere, room for children to enjoy themselves and campfires this is the site for you. If you like perfectly manicured flat pitches and wardens on site 24/7 then this is not the site for you. We were there on a bank holiday weekend and yes the bin in the toilet did get full (it's a small bin) but it was emptied every day and the toilets and showers cleaned every day. The pizza from the pizza shack was amazing and bring able to buy a drink from the club house an added bonus.

Disliked: There was a bit of a slope it didn't bother us but just so others are aware.

Liked: Setting, value, staff, facilities

Disliked: Grass too long, dangerous hole in grassed area

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good evening, thank you for staying with us & leaving your comments. I'm sorry you found the grass too long, however we are a busy site & the grass wears quickly if it's cut too short, & also assists grip if the ground is wet when moving vehicles accorss the site. we will look into the hole you mention assuming you pointed it out to our staff on site, & we will address this immediatly. Thanks for visiting us.
