Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Caldbeck camping site is situated in a beautiful part of Cumbria along a river and is a great place for walking and hiking. It is well managed and has good facilities including separate male and female toilets and also showers. It has a sink for washing pots in a separate building. There are pitches that have fire pits provided, which are on small cement slabs. Caldbeck is a small village and is a short stroll from the camp site. There is a pub and a few shops including the Millhouse, selling handcrafts and collectibles and also cafe. The couple who run Caldbeck camping are friendly and helpful. This is not a large camp site, so we found it a great place to meet others and also to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Small though perfectly formed next to Caldbeck village and river/beck side campsite. Spacious clean showers and toilet building. Well equipped pot washing, with lots of info on the area and village. Well tended grounds and pitches, with access to a slower stretch of the river/beck near the end of the campsite, also access to woodlands/walks via a gate. Fire pits and picnic benches on the pitches. This is the second time I have camped here, my grand daughters loved it and it is certainly a favourite now of mine, can’t recommend it enough. Good mobile signal (I’m on O2 network) Campsite and owners are fab, the village is lovely and peaceful, with places to eat/drink and buy essentials. Keswick just over half an hour away, with easy access to other sightseeing places. A selection of electric hook up pitches, though we stayed on non ehu for the weekend. Very thoughtful touches, like access to solar usb charging in the pot washing building and lots and of info about the local businesses, really makes your stay. I wish all sites would put as much thought into everything ❤️

Disliked: Nothing, apart from having to leave (my grand daughters asked to live here)

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good size pitches. Due to all the rain the camp site provides mats to go in front of your tent to protect the grass and save on muddy footprints in tent. Very clean bathrooms. We where pitched next to the river. Nice quiet site and nice to sit and watch the sheep and lambs in the field facing. Lovely welcome. Nice pub round the corner. In all a great site at a great price.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Right from the start we were extremely warmly greeted by the owner. She was utterly fantastic. The site is utterly charming with a stream running close by. The areas are highly well-kept and the facilities were spotlessly clean. We will definitely be back again.

Disliked: Nothing - liked every bit of our stay.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The location of this site is beautiful. Surrounded by farm land with the sound of a running river next to you it really sets the scene. The campsite is located on the “Cumbria way” with a path from Caldbeck to Carlisle running through camp. There’s a lovely sign that gives you some info to the history of it. The facilities are in lovely state, clean and updated. There’s a toilet block/ shower block and campers kitchen with a solar port to charge devices. Nearby there is a lovely pub, village shop and a walkers cafe which I didn’t get a chance to visit but was always busy when I passed! The host was very accommodating, helpful and gave me lots of info regarding the area. I’d highly recommend anyone to stay at this place!

Local attractions

When in Cumbria you’ll surely be wanting some time near the lakes, so factor in a trip to Bassenthwaite (about a 35-minute drive from the site) for watery walks. Derwentwater’s about the same distance for standup paddleboarding, windsurfing and canoeing, and Pooley Bridge is the place for sailing past peaks on the famed Ullswater steamers (35 minutes’ drive). The countryside is of course fabulous around here, but history can also be had at spots like Carlisle Castle and Mirehouse House and Gardens about 30 minutes away. And if you’re toying with the idea of eloping, you can be up at Gretna Green in about 40 minutes. In this land of plenty, guests are also close to the coast – Solway’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 40 minutes by car for views over the sea, with the beaches being a tad further if you want to get your toes stuck into some sand.
