Camping du Lac de Condé is a spacious and family-friendly site near a small lake for waterside ambles, and adjacent to a forest for yet more wanders around your pretty surrounds. Around the site, venture to spend plenty of days’ leisure time relaxing or getting sporty; there’s lots of wide open green space for grownups to get horizontal among while their offspring frolic freely elsewhere or – most likely – elect to swing about and slide around the playground. When eventually vertical, adults and their guests of all ages can hone their bowling skills at the pétanque court, or play ping pong, volleyball, basketball or football. For indoor days or slightly more cerebral pursuits, hire board games for a small deposit from the recreation room. Family eats are sorted at the park’s large communal barbecue; should one prefer to dine indoors, the communal dining hall is the place to be instead. Off site, a supermarket is within easy reach on foot or by car should anything on your shopping list not be stocked at the on-site shop. When in need of some local nous about the area, head over to the friendly park peeps at reception, who will gladly point you in the direction of their favourite local spots around it. Also while here, pick up snacks and essentials, and order fresh bread or breakfast boxes for the next day.

Local attractions

A sports centre is next door to the site, where you can get active with all manner of pursuits, from swimming at the seasonal pool to making your confuddled way around the maze, scaling the centre’s climbing wall or bounding around with ball games at the sports court. As the site is set in the northern part of the Aisne department, walking and cycling routes are around the immediate surroundings as well as a little further afield, such as ones that take explorers from Hirson, half an hour’s drive away, to the forest and abbey of Saint-Michel, 20 minutes’ bike ride or an hour’s amble away. There’s lots of history around here too: Aisne was a major battlefield during World War I, so lots of war cemeteries and memorials are around its lands, including Grand Seraucourt, Montcornet, Sissonne, Soupir, Vailly-sur-Aisne and Ville-aux-Bois-les-Pontavert, all within an hour and a half’s drive.
