Stays of all sorts are on the cards when you pitch up at Camping Le Pic in the Dordogne valley, whether it’s active river-based days, slower-paced ambles among beaut bucolic surrounds, or heading swiftly by car to fun family attractions. A stay here will have you within an 20 minutes’ drive of the highly handsome town of Souillac and the slides and tides of its neighbouring Quercyland waterpark, and within even easier reach of the banks of the Dordogne river for fishing, canoeing and swimming. Hiking, cycling and horse riding are available too around the Dordogne valley and the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park, and also in close proximity are a farm filled with furry and feathered critters and a reptile park for spying all sorts of slimy and scaly specimens. Should you fancy a wander off site to explore your cracking locale, you can get straight onto a hiking path that leads out into the lands around direct from its doors. Lots of caves, châteaux and ancient villages to are around to visit if you’re a fan of delving into local l’histoire and culture, such as medieval Martel, Carennac and Rocamadour, plus the utterly splendiferous Padirac Cave nearby. Your hosts Joëlle and Eric have set the site up splendidly for cosy and comfy family stays: leisure facilities comprise a big and highly scenic outdoor pool with a curly and whirly waterslide for whooshing down to the water on, and a spa building with hot tub and sauna for grownups bubble and steam themselves among: guests can book this out for pampering spells, which is especially welcome after long countryside hiking expeditions around the surrounding lands. On land is a playground to keep tiny tiddlers amply amused, and more spells of family fun can be had around with facilities for pétanque, ping pong, billiards and table football. In summer, staff organise activities including guided hikes and themed meals. Also splendidly, barbecues are allowed to facilitate alfresco feasts, or you can head to the bar and snack bar when craving some time off self-catering. Amenities-wise, the sanitary block has three toilets and three hot-water showers and a dedicated baby bath area for keeping small peeps in fine fettle, and a launderette with a washing machine and a tumble dryer is on hand for the maintenance of all your swish holiday threads.

Lugares de interés

Kids will be thrilled by the prospect of a stay here, for lots of family-friendly attractions are around: Quercyland waterpark in Souillac is a short and simple drive away for poolside days among slides, tropical pools and wave machines, and a couple of ace animal parks are in the locale too: take your family of animal fanciers to the menagerie at Meyrangle Farm, which houses lots of happy donkeys, sheep, goats, Chinese pigs, and fine feathered critters such as geese and ducks. Otherwise, you can go to goggle the likes of snakes, lizards, crocodiles, turtles and creepy crawly spiders at Reptiland over in Martel – if, of course, you’re a fan of scaled and slimy things. Should one fancy something more active, then the banks of the Dordogne river are perhaps your first port of call, for several watery pursuits like fishing, canoeing and swimming are available here. If you’re more of a landlubbing type, then that’s sorted too around the Dordogne valley and the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park, with lots of highly scenic bridleways and walking and cycling trails around their smashing lands. Elsewhere, the floodlit rock formations and crystalline natural water pools of the Padriac Cave make for an especially ethereal experience deep below ground. Make sure you wear something warm and shoes with good tread, for the caves can be cold and some of the walkways slippery, and it’s also a good idea to book in advance to avoid queuing. Also worth a little wander around are the cave’s local little clifftop village of Rocamadour, as well as the medieval towns of Martel and Carennac.
