Cheshire glamping holidays

Glamping is an excellent way to explore Cheshire. Perhaps you’ve decided to trade out basic grass pitches for more luxurious features such as real beds and kitchen equipment for the first time. Or perhaps you’re a seasoned glamper wanting a comfortable base from which to explore Chester’s Roman walls and half-timbered Rows.

Maybe you simply envision yourself gazing over wildflower meadows from the comfort of a bell tent or rustling up homecooked meals in your lodge’s kitchen.

There are many different glamping accommodations scattered around Cheshire’s countryside, cities and towns. Better yet, they can be as basic, luxurious or unusual as you like. Families and dogs are welcome too; just filter your search for your needs.

Where you should stay in Cheshire

  • Searching for a family-friendly Cheshire break? You might want to consider staying in a bell tent or a safari tent near Chester. Kids get the entertainment factor of staying in the outdoors, but the same time they’re likely to get a better night’s sleep than in a traditional canvas tent. This should help to prevent any daytime tantrums while touring the city’s historic city walls, its 700-year-old shops or Chester Zoo

  • If you’re embarking on an adults-only Cheshire holiday, why not stay in a camping and glamping pod or a lodge or log cabin? Whether you’re a couple or a group of friends, you’ll have plenty of privacy behind four walls.

  • Those travelling with a dog are likely to love glamping accommodation in the vast Cheshire countryside. After all, it will be easy to take off over the country stiles from a countryside glamping site. Top of your list might be something like a shepherd’s hut, where canines are less likely to tread their mucky paws over the beds. Perhaps look for dog-friendly shepherd’s huts near Crewe or in rural Cheshire locations with enclosed fields or pitches, which will give you peace of mind that your dog’s in an enclosed setting too.

  • Couples might want to stay close to Chester or Crewe, where there are theatres, bars and other romantic settings for their date nights. It's also possible to filter listings for adults-only sites to be sure of a child-free break.

What you can do in Cheshire

  • Pick a glamping site near the Roman city of Chester, where historical sites include Chester Cathedral and the Chester Rows. Make a lap of the city walls while you’re at it or head to the northern outskirts of Chester for family-friendly days out at Chester Zoo.

  • Historic sites in Cheshire include Walton Hall and Gardens, an Elizabethan hall with gorgeous estate picnic spots and a children’s zoo, and the 19th-century Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, where there are pygmy goats, llamas and a lake. You might want to stay in the surrounding countryside, where you can get all the pleasures of staying in a countryside bell tent without sacrificing the little comforts.

  • Where’s better to catch a theatre show than in an Edwardian auditorium? The Crewe Lyceum Theatre hosts fabulous shows throughout the year if you'd like to add an extra cultural element to your glamping break.

Here’s how

Before anything else, try to decide exactly which types of glamping you’re the most interested in. Shepherd’s huts and camping and glamping pods might feel more familiar for first-time glampers; like your home, they have four walls and they usually have a full-size bed too.

Those who’d rather replicate the traditional camping experience as closely as possible might prefer to stay in a bell tent or a safari tent. They all have their own unique atmosphere. In a safari tent, you might feel like you’re out on the African plains, for example.
