Pull up and see for yourself at Nevada's Lakeside RV Park, a place of spectacular setting and first-rate facilities – in a Pahrump locale about an hour from Las Vegas. Loads is around to do at this quiet and remote park: it has a heated pool and a hot tub; fishing, kayaking and pedal boating at the seven-acre lake (boats and kayaks can be hired on site), and games of frisbee golf or horseshoes. Too much? Bag a cabana on the sandy beach for gentle snoozes among the Nevada rays. When it's time to wander indoors, Lakeside RV Park will see you sorted from dusk to dawn and then beyond, at its big and glitzy casino with sports kiosk and slot machines, nine flatscreen TVs to check out sports games all year round, and a 24/7 bar run by a laidback and friendly team. For lakeside eats, a roomy café is also on site, open daily, and a country store is open at all times. The park also has a toilet block, a drying room, a laundry and free wifi.

If the Lakeside RV Park slot machines have tickled your fancy, the campground's local town of Pahrump is only an hour west of famed and glittering Las Vegas; if it's the Nevada sun you hanker after, an hour in the other direction will take you to the parched landscape and record summer heat of the Death Valley National Park. The park is well placed for other outdoor days out around the Pahrump Valley and Nye County, like guided tours of the local wineries (and then picnics with the best souvenirs), fishing in the creek of the Carpenter Canyon, teeing off at the Mountain Falls Golf Club a short drive away, and scenery spotting around the Spring Mountains rising up from the Pahrump Valley's northeast and east. Wildlife watchers and reservation hikers have the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge to wander, a desert habitat to the east of Death Valley but covering 24,000 acres of spring-fed wetlands, all of fossil water tens of thousands of years old. A topping nearby option for drivers is taking your truck or ATV to the off-road haven of the Amargosa Dunes, five square miles of dips and dunes that top out on a peak of 500 feet: you might/should feel that you're racing around Mars…
