Sand, sea and… Slea Head? If seaside stays in one of Ireland’s most stunningly scenic spots appeal, hurry along to Inch Beach Camping, a family-friendly site in the tiny village of Inch on Kerry’s famed Dingle peninsula. The site’s biggest draw is proximity to the five-kilometre-long stretch of golden sand that makes up the eponymous Inch Beach. It’s less than 200 metres from site to sand-between-toes (guests will be able to see the seaside from several parts of the pitching area) and a handful of watersports. The beach is well-known as a surfing hotspot, but windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding are doable here too, as is casting a line for a few diverting hours of fishing. When it's time for a break from beach days, there’s lots more to do hereabouts, starting with a trip into Dingle, 25 minutes’ drive away. The town is a top-notch jumping-off point for dolphin-watching trips (especially to see the town’s most famous denizen, Fungie) and scenic drives, but sticking around comes highly recommended too, for visits to the aquarium, Dingle Distillery, local craft shops and the more than 50 pubs. Lazier days back at base can be spent unwinding, eating meals made in the site’s shared kitchen, or simply soaking up the views. The family cook can have a break too, as there’s a well-placed restaurant overlooking the beach, less than two minutes’ easy stroll away.

This site is about 35 minutes’ drive from the start of the famed Slea Head, a spectacularly scenic 47-kilometre route that traces the very edge of the Dingle Peninsula. As well as stunning views over the sea towards the Blasket Islands and the Iveragh Peninsula, there are lots of spots worth stopping at along the way, including ancient beehive huts, Famine-era cottages, pretty beaches and the famed Louis Mulcahy pottery studio. A pitstop at Brandon’s Creek (40 minutes' drive) is worthwhile too, to see the spot from where St Brendan supposedly set sail for America in his currach, though anyone tiring of the sea view should opt instead (or as well) for a jaunt up the steeply winding Conor’s Pass, just outside Dingle. When Dingle Peninsula explores are exhausted, head instead towards Killarney (45 minutes). The town is home to the stately Muckross House and to plenty of shops and restaurants, and is also the gateway to Killarney National Park, Ladies' View, Moll’s Gap and the 179-kilometre-long Ring of Kerry drive around the Iveragh Peninsula. Don’t make the mistake of sticking to the Iveragh coast, though – explore the interior of the peninsula too with trips to the absolute-must-see Gap of Dunloe (40 minutes) and Ballaghbeama Gap (one hour).

Mi è piaciuto: Really loved the closeness to the beach. Owner really helpful and friendly, came to check we were ok after storm Eunice arrived! The facilities were homely and sufficient. We were able to dry some clothes through in the tumble dryer and have a hot shower before we moved on. Just make sure you have some euro coins for washing/dryer and showers
