The Zanella family have been welcoming guests to the lovely Centro Vacanze Valdor, near Cavallino-Treporti, for three generations – and, as you can probably imagine, they’ve learned a thing or two over the years about how to keep their customers happy. It helps, of course, that this is an excellent location – the Veneto site spreads across 12 acres of land in a conservation area made up of maritime pine woods, and it’s got direct access to a long stretch of private sandy beach (with parasols and sun loungers available to hire). The local area is easy to explore by bike, and the nightlife of Jesolo isn’t far away. Oh, and there's the small matter of Venice (and its islands) being a short boat ride away, too… Not content to rely on location alone, however, the family have made sure to keep updating their facilities over the years. These days, that means guests have access to an outdoor pool area (with main pool, paddling pool, Jacuzzi and waterslide) that's open from mid-May to September, along with a playground, a pétanque court and a fitness room. Kids’ activities, sports tournaments and various entertainments are laid on throughout the summer too. Barbecues are allowed if you'd like to do a bit of outdoor cooking; alternatively, you can take a table at the restaurant, which has an enticing menu and a spacious terrace that also makes a lovely spot for a drink or two. Practical facilities also cover things like a launderette, a wifi connection and modern bathroom blocks with free hot water.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

A day out in the stunning city of Venice is a must, of course – or perhaps a couple of days? After all, it’s easy to get there by boat (half an hour’s trip) and there’s a lot to see and do, what with St Mark’s Square and Basilica, the Rialto Bridge, the Bridge of Sighs, the Guggenheim Museum, the Doge’s Palace, the Accademia gallery, all the churches, all the canals… And Venice isn't the only place you can get to by boat – you may also like to take trips to the other islands, perhaps to see the colourful houses of Burano (15 minutes away), the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta on Torcello (20 minutes) or the famed glass makers of Murano (40 minutes). Something for the kids? The nearby towns of Jesolo and Lido di Jesolo (20 minutes) have plenty of attractions, including the Caribe Bay waterpark, Vidotto Military Historical Museum, Tropicarium Park and the interactive exhibits of La Fabbrica della Scienza.
