Who's up for ditching the car and being driven to Cádiz on an Andalusian holiday? Amble a non-energetic couple of hundred metres from Camping La Rana Verde to catch the bus to this ancient Spanish city, and to the flamenco vibe, sherry production and motorbike Grand Prix home of Jerez de la Frontera, the province of Cádiz's biggest city. Also within sauntering distance from the site are the local beaches of La Barrosa and Sancti Petri, the town centre of historic Chiclana de la Frontera, and the coastal area, walking trails and marshes of the Cádiz Bay Natural Park, all within three kilometres. Bike hire is available nearby if you want to investigate a bit further. Camping La Rana Verde is surrounded by woodland, on landscaped gardens that include padel tennis courts, an outdoor pool, a playground, and amenities including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. A kids' club runs in high season. The bar and restaurant serves a wide range of dishes including paella and barbecued local fish, to have on the outdoor terrace or to take away. There's also a shop, selling groceries and gas cylinders.

By car: On the A48 drive up to Chiclana and take exit 10 signposted Playa de La Barrosa and continue on the Carretera Las Lagunas. Continue to follow for La Barrosa for approximately 3km and go through two roundabouts. The campsite is located 400m past the second roundabout. By bus: From Chiclana: Line 6 stops 200m from the campsite. Line 8 or Line 11 stops 800m away.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Take the bus from the stop 200 metres from Camping La Rana Verde for the 23-kilometre journey to Cádiz, one of the oldest cities in the world. Among the sights to see (you'll need at least a few days) are the Torre Tavira (one of over 100 watchtowers in the city), Cádiz Cathedral, the Parador Atlantico and the Castillo San Sebastian. A largely intact Roman theatre was discovered in 1980 in the El Pópulo district. From Cádiz, or straight from Chiclana de la Frontera 37 kilometres away, another couple of days must be had in Jerez de la Frontera, the famed Andalusian home of sherry production, flamenco dancing and, since 1987, the motorcycle Grand Prix (Jerez was named as the world's first Motorbike Capital, in 2014). The city's also famed for its Carthusian horses, and the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Staying around the site, you could have hikes around the marshes, beaches and coastline of the Cádiz Bay Natural Park; try watersports including paddleboarding, kitesurfing, surfing, snorkelling and wakeboarding at the nearby beaches; play golf within six kilometres, or wander around the markets, Chiclana Museum and other sights of Chiclana de la Frontera.
