Ooh, a Spanish site right slap bang in a natural park – and a short walk away from a sandy beach... Family-friendly Camping Barraquetes is also about 20km away from very arty and very sciencey Valencia – alternate days on beach and in city, perhaps...? Camping at Camping Barraquetes is calm and pet-friendly; a pétanque court and sports ground is on site just in case you're feeling active, and a library, snack bar and restaurant just in case you're not. Active and relaxed sorts can mix together in the outdoor pool with waterslides, and an additional paddling pool is there too for smaller guests. Amenities are covered with the laundry room and loo blocks with individual showers, and activities by the entertainment and sports organised in July and August for all age groups.

That park of nature near Camping Barraquetes is Albufera National Park/Parc Natural de l'Albufera, which includes Lake Albufera, the biggest lake in Spain and a protected area and World Heritage Site in Lake Albufera. This is a wetland area with excellent opps for seeing wading birds; fishing is also available and has been popular here for aeons. The beach of Sueca is about ten minutes' walk away and well worth it for 7km of sand and access to the Saler golf course, twice host of the Spanish Open and once voted the best golf course in Spain and the second best in Europe. That'll be a must, then. And also a must is of course Spain's third biggest city Valencia. We'd be here all day if we covered everything to do in this magnif minicpal, but highlights include Valencia Cathedral; the biggest aquarium in Europe with over 500 species at the Oceanográfico; the Ciutat de les Artes i les Ciències/City of Arts and Sciences; vantage point the Umbracle; the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía opera house and the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum.
