Booking a break in Bockenau? Add angling, hiking, horse riding and motorbiking to your Rheinland-Pfalz mix by bagging a stay at Vodatent at Camping Bockenauer Schweiz. This pretty place is between Trier, Cochem and Mainz, in a top spot for hiking, cycling and motorbiking as well as town hopping around the likes of Bad Kreuznach, Bingen and Idar Obenstein (Bockenau is one of Germany's official tourism centres). It's a nifty base too for day trips or for stopping off on your Great European Road Trip, as France, Belgium and Luxembourg are reachable within a couple of hours. Vineyards are nearby for vino fans to sup on fine German wine: if you aim to try this with utmost ease, the Camping Bockenauer Schweiz restaurant with terrace is your mightily handy setting for regional wines, local beers and traditional dishes of German and Dutch cuisine. A food shop and local produce sales are also to hand. Even more handily for your leisurely pursuits, a large pond is in the grounds for angling (and paddling), several fishing streams are within easy reach of the site, and a horse riding centre is within walking distance – you may well find yourself dithering about what to do first...

Lokale attraksjoner

Several hiking and cycling routes start from the site and plenty more are within easy reach around the local countryside and along the banks of the Moselle and the Rhine. For a gentle amble, wander around the many exhibits of the Rheinland-Pfalzisches open air museum 15 minutes' drive from the site (you can bike the 12 kilometres there if you're eager for more exercise). Serene days await among the thermal waters of Bad Kreuznach, 20 minutes away, a spa town with plenty of centres to pick from. There's loads to see in town after that, including a Roman villa, a puppet museum and many a medieval building; if you're around on Tuesdays or Fridays, the Kornmarkt is the spot for fresh local produce. Like Bad Kreuznach, Bingen 35 minutes' drive away is known for its wine, as well as for its Mouse Tower, festivals and the Roman villa in its surrounding forest. The curious could also have days out in Idar Obenstein (45 minutes), at its gemstones mine and the German Gemstone Museum; Rhineland-Palatinate capital Mainz (also within 45 minutes) and Koblenz, the fortified city on both banks of the Rhine (45 minutes). Three public swimming pools are within 10 kilometres.
