Pitch up at La Tatgera for a peaceful family retreat to medieval Talamanca, within half an hour’s drive of the entrance to the wildlife-packed Sant Llorenç del Munt i Serra de l'Obac Natural Park, and an hour's drive from Barcelona and the Costa Brava coastline. A horse riding centre is within 10 minutes’ drive (or half an hour’s pedal if you’ve got your own bike) for heady horseback tours of the locale along small slow-flowing rivers and streams and among woodlands and wide open countryside spaces, all with splendid views toward the horizon’s mountains. La Tatgera is a rural and scenic site, welcoming families to pitches surrounded by greenery and views of distant wooded hillsides. Kids will love zipping down the seasonal outdoor pool’s toboggan slide, and grownups will be equally fond of hanging out around the solarium alongside in between dips... There’s plenty of space to run around in too, with lots of shrubs and trees to play hide and seek among, and a basketball court and a football area should any in your party fancy a bounce around or kick about. For eats on site, the restaurant’s roomy and viewsome terrace area has vistas out over the hills beyond: settle back here at breakfast and lunchtime to dine on locally sourced grilled dishes (menus for groups and dinners are available on request). Also handily, this is where you can pick up the site’s free wifi service.

If you’re fond of a wildlife-themed wander, the Sant Llorenç del Munt i Serra de l'Obac Natural Park a scenic half an hour’s drive away, is a top spot for wildlife watchers, as its rocky escarpments, caves and holm oak and pine groves are home to more than 200 species. To explore a bit more of Catalonia’s history, around the locale are several famed ancient monuments like Spain’s most significant medieval fortress, the hilltop Castle of Cardona, 45 minutes’ drive to the north of La Tatgera, and the mountaintop monastery of Montserrat, 45 minutes’ drive to the south. A little closer to home, Manresa city has a highly handsome historic quarter for ambles around narrow streets and famed buildings like its City Hall and the Palace of Justice. For seaside and city days, bring your buckets, spades and sightseeing spirit to Barcelona and its beaches, all just over an hour’s drive from La Tatgera. Hit up Sitges for a beach party vibe, or take a more relaxed approach and sample fresh seafood at the historic fishing village of Sant Sebastià.
