After something out of the way? Aim for the Ardennes in southern Wallonia to explore the region's thick forests and lush valleys. For slow-paced breaks in this rural part of the world, look to Koko Holidays at Camping Colline de Rabais, where pre-pitched safari tents are all set up to wish you a warm Belgian welcome. Picking the safari tents here is a smart move indeed, as you'll get access to a nifty camp kitchen, a roomy outdoor terrace and proper beds to sleep up to six. Set three kilometres from the town of Virton and within half an hour's drive of the border with France and Luxembourg, this laidback family campsite has facilities that are sure to come in handy as you prepare for action-packed days out. From a practical angle, there's a laundry room, a bar where you can pick up something quick to eat and wifi for planning your cross-border itineraries. That said, Camping Colline de Rabais is also well-equipped for lazy days lounging around site: go back to the bar for a longer spell getting to know your fellow holidaymakers, take a dip in the spacious open-air pool or drop the kids at the playground for some time on the swings and slides.

Starting locally, take the time to stroll around Virton (five minutes' drive), where low-key but handy amenities like a public swimming pool, weekly market, local tourist information centre and small museum are on hand. For interesting architecture in the local area, look first to the Château de Villemont (15 minutes) or Orval (20 minutes), where a museum, Cistercian monastery and old-style brewery are all worth a lengthy look-in. Although the locals often nip over the Luxembourg border just to refuel their cars (saving a pretty penny in the process), it's worth going deeper into the Grand Duchy for at least a full day. Luxembourg City (40 minutes) has a mix of museums, galleries and UNESCO-listed heritage sites to explore. Tired after tramping the streets of the well-preserved old town for hours on end? Take the bus, train or tram back – it's free for residents and tourists alike. Having ticked off two thirds of the Benelux (sorry Holland fans, the southern tip of the Netherlands is two hours away, so probably slightly too far for a day trip), continue into France, where you could visit Metz's Pompidou centre (an hour and 10 minutes) or the rollercoasters at Walygator Parc (an hour and 10 minutes).

Namiot typu safari 2 pokoje

Polubione: Pool and playground were prefect. Woods and walking track around the camp ground was beautiful.

Niepolubione: The shower block nearest our tent was shut and had to walk further. The shower units themselves where on the narrow side. Both minor complaints.
