Settle down for a sojourn at this peaceful spot in La Brenne Regional Natural Park. Set between the Châteaux of the Loire Valley and the foothills of the Massif Central, this site will have you within easy access to cycling and hiking trails aplenty (one starts right on site), as well as horseback hacks, whitewater rafting and – for braver types – skydiving too. Known by locals as ‘the land of a thousand lakes’, the surrounding lands of La Brenne are dotted with more than 2,000 lakes and ponds and comprise a patchwork of marshes, reed beds, moors, prairies and forests, making this place a topping spot for birdwatchers and wildlife spotters. Camping de la Tête Noire is parked on the banks of the Indre river (handy for angling sorts) and a swift 600 metres from the centre of the Gallo-Roman town of Buzançais, so it’s a handy amble to local amenities that include several supermarkets, shops, a bakery and a weekly Friday farmers’ market. The site is lush and leafy and there’s heaps of green space primed for ball games and outdoor frolics of other sorts, and lashings of leisure time can be filled on site with facilities that include an outdoor pool, a pétanque court, a playground, a terrace restaurant and an entertainment area at which to while away summer evenings.

Lokalne atrakcje

There’s plenty of history in the area to get stuck into, with several châteaux within easy reach, like the Château de Valençay and its 53-hectare gardens (which include a deer park and a forest), and the world-famed Château de Chambord, constructed by King Francis I as a grandiose hunting lodge. Should you be travelling with tiddlers in tow, the 30-hectare ZooParc de Beauval in Saint-Aignan will be of particular interest, as it houses a menagerie of more than 5,000 critters including pandas, koalas, manatees, okapis, kangaroos, tigers and white lions. The park is so packed with stuff to see and do that it’s highly recommended you plan to spend a day here. When you want to get active, the Indre à Vélo cycle route stretches across more than 100 kilometres along the Indre valley, and is connected to the Loire à Vélo route at both ends. A pedal along this route comes highly recommended, as it’s peppered with highly photogenic villages and historic spots like the Azay-le-Rideau château, the keep at Montbazon and the Royal Citadel of Loches.
