Stake your claim for a prolonged stay at the spectacular Peak District pod place of Slate House Farm, a small countryside site set on a working farm nine miles from Chesterfield. Although small and never crowded, this lush site has proved rightly popular with guests, who wax lyrical about its vies, its setting, its facilities and its friendly vibe. The site has outstanding views over the Derbyshire countryside and is surrounded by ancient market towns, swathes of country estates and walking, cycling and mountain biking trails for intrepid adventurers. Anglers (fly and coarse) can cast off about a mile away; Matlock is within three and a half miles, and it's but a 20-minute drive from the farm to the heady sightseeing of the Heights of Abraham, where strong-minded sorts can bob about the landscape in a cable car. Slate House Farm is fably set for Peak District family days to suit all flavours too, with famed Chatsworth House within 10 miles and even more famed (to small sorts at least) Gulliver's Kingdom within eight. Alton Towers is just under an hour's drive away. The pods each have an ensuite bathroom, a small and well-equipped kitchen, double beds with mattresses, and a TV and DVD player. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed on site.

Gostou: Excellent, clean and warm pod. It was wet and chilly outside, but when we arrived, our hosts were friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Even gave me some charcoal for the bbq, so I didn't hand to go and buy some. I was worried the pod would be chilly, but they'd put the heater on and it was cosy and lovely. Very comfortable, would thoroughly recommend.

Gostou: We had a great 2 nights here, lovely pods, and a great site. Size was great for the 3 of us, me and my 2 kids (10 and 11) Kids loved the pod aswell as all the animals around the place. We will definitely be back again, and we would highly recommend. Owner was friendly and very helpful, pod was well equipped, clean and welcoming. Our first night, we were hit by heavy rain and wind... but we were cosy and warm all night long. Following night was lovely weather so made use of the fire pit and a disposable bbq 😁

Gostou: Excellent Location, in touching distance of many Towns, Villages and great Hiking Trails. Very Peaceful and relaxing farm. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly. The Accommodation has everything you need after a long day on the hills. Warm and cosy with all the home comforts, easily accessible by vehicle and would highly recommend. Many thanks 🙏

Gostou: The pod had everything we needed. It was warm and toasty on arrival and our host was welcoming. There was a lot of space to run around outside & the beautiful horses and donkeys in the surrounding fields were a delightful bonus.

Gostou: The hosts are really nice and warm. The pods are really well equipped, clean and comfortable. The place is a lovely farm with horses and donkeys around. The location is excellent: 20 minutes from Bakewell, 5 min from a fantastic pub. Will recommend 100%.

Gostou: That all necessities were provided (bedding & cooking utensils). Very secluded spot, with only 4 Pods looking over the countryside. There was also a nice welcoming surprise of fire wood for the fire pit and a bag of marshmallows to toast over the fire.

Gostou: A very warm welcome on arrival, lovely friendly owners who were very accommodating. The pod itself was beautiful and cosy( heating put on by owners to take the chill off). Extremly well equipped no need to bring anything but food!. The pod was cosy and warm with the heating on, ensuite definitely plus. Would definitely stay again.

As well as Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers (well, after Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers), kids of a certain trainspotting disposition might like a puff around the National Tramway Museum, set in the period village of Crich Tramway Village. Trams are here to chuff along on, there are woodland walks and a nature trail, and indoors has exhibits on 100 years of tram history as well as the interactive displays of the award-winning Stephenson Discovery Centre. As long as you don't utter the words 'stately home' too soon, kids should also like a day at Chatsworth House, where there's a farmyard and zipwiring, and Bolsover Castle, (30 minutes), the spectacular 17th-century fort with regular kid-friendly events. Somewhat more grownup times can he had at Haddon Hall, also within 30 minutes. You must def meander around the small villages of the Peak District while here too, as each are famed for their own individual thing: have tarts at Bakewell (25 minutes), hone your footballing skills at Ashbourne (40 minutes) and see the spas of Buxton, 45 minutes away.
