Nature nuts should all immediately head to Norfolk for a spot of wildlife-watching on a peaceful site. The cosy wooden camping pods at Baconsthorpe Meadows Campsite near Holt are part of a six-acre campsite on a working farm, and they’re intended to be an easy alternative to camping, while maintaining that traditional outdoor vibe. To help make life easy, each pod is kitted out with the basics: bed and mattress, a heater, charging points and seating, with a picnic table outside for your meals. That just leaves you to bring along your bedding, towels, cooking utensils and any other bits you might need to keep you happy and comfortable while you’re here (a torch is a good idea for after-dark manoeuvres too…) Pod guests also have access to all the facilities of the main campsite, including a shower block, washing-up sinks, freezers, microwave, a washing machine and tumble dryer. This is a site that’s best described as ‘nice and quiet’ – it’s not a place for party types, and there’s a no-noise policy in place after 10pm to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep. That atmosphere makes this a welcoming place for wildlife too – you may well spot hares and hedgehogs scuffling about in the undergrowth in the outer reaches of the field, or barn owls flying overhead at dusk.

The owners recommend bringing bikes along to explore the locality, or hiring them locally with a company that will deliver to site. Alternatively, set out on foot along the Circular Route No 31 – Holt to Mannington Walk, which runs alongside the camping field. A favourite local day out is to Blakeney Point (15 minutes’ drive or 50 minutes’ cycle), where you can see the grey seal colony and breeding birds in summer and take strolls along the dunes. They’re not short on history hereabouts either. Baconsthorpe Castle (15 minutes’ walk) is the spot to start your heritage tour – there’s a photogenic ruin that kids can scramble over as well as some pretty corners for family picnics. The stately National Trust-owned piles of Blickling Hall (20 minutes’ drive, birthplace of Anne Boleyn) and National Trust - Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (15 minutes, Jacobean mansion) might be on your agenda too. The beautiful Georgian town of Holt (10 minutes) is crammed with antique shops and art galleries if you fancy splashing some cash – and if you’d like to feel a sea breeze in your hair, Sheringham (15 minutes) has a promenade, a sandy beach and old-fashioned amusements arcades.

Tyckte om: Beautiful camp site with excellent, clean facilities. The pod was very comfortable to stay in, despite us not having the best weather. The heater kept us nice and warm at night and the bed was very comfortable. Emma was also a lovely friendly host. The site is perfectly located for visiting Holt, which has some lovely restaurants, and costal areas such as Blakeney and Sheringham.

Tyckte om: I can only complement this amazing campsite. We had a beautiful and tranquil stay on the site, the pods are incredible and equipped with everything you require. After long days of walking in the wind we found it very relaxing to come back to the pod and shelter from the weather. The farm land we were surrounded by was beautiful and the facilities were amazing. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Tyckte om: Quiet flat rural farm site, excellent pod, 1st time we've stayed in one as usually tenters. Great as you get a real bed & just put your own home style bedding on. Facilities of toilets, showers, washing up, all excellent & clean.

Tyckte om: Clean, peaceful site. Pods are clean, warm, spacious and comfortable. Toilets are clean. Shower areas clean & warm. Emma the owner is welcoming, friendly and informative. Nice play area for kids and a safe site for them to play around.

Tyckte om: The pod was brilliant. Excellent location close to Sheringham. Very comfortable and great to have a kettle, mini fridge and toaster. The whole site was immaculate with superb facilities. Loved that the showers had hot water whatever time of day they were used. Very welcoming and friendly hosts. Would definitely stay again.
