Cor – what cracking views this site has over Mount Oroel. And what easy access it has to hikes around spectacular valleys: if simple and highly scenic is just the way you like it, then this spot is sure to please. Camping Aín Jaca lies at the foot of Mount Oroel, just two kilometres from the city of Jaca, an ancient fortified city on the Aragón River. It#s within easy reach of the grand ruined station of Canfranc, and 40 minutes’ drive from a ski resort too. The hosts here are hailed by previous holidaymakers as being warm and friendly, and always up for offering advice on local hiking options. A small and scenic pool is on site, before and after which you can fuel up at the little bar and eatery in the old farmhouse building. For anything more, supplies and meals out can be sought over in Jaca city centre, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. And for a simplistic site, its amenities are certainly generous: the immaculately kept washrooms have a hot-water supply and house hairdryers, hand soap, paper towels and lots of mirror space, plus plenty of showers with shower curtains and hooks to hang clothes and towels on. An added bonus too is that there’s no specific time to pack up and vacate the site, so you won't feel hurried along when leaving.

Lokala sevärdheter

As one might expect from somewhere as lush and lovely as this, lots of viewsome hiking routes are around, such as that from Estación de Canfranc, a short drive away. There’s also a local activity centre, and should you seek a snow-based sport during winter, a ski resort is around 40 minutes’ drive north of Camping Aín Jaca. One of the local must-sees has got to be the huge deserted railway station of Canfranc deep in the Aragon river valley: once one of Europe’s busiest rail hubs, this grand and ghostly ruin was shut down in 1970, and now lies eerily empty in front of its mightily spectacular Pyrenean backdrop. Over in the local city of Jaca, amble around its attractive Old Town to spy the 16th-century Castle of St. Peter – with its Museum of Military Miniatures – and 11th-century cathedral, punctuating your investigation with pitstops at any of the many excellent eateries around. During winter, the city has a fun and funky vibe with lots of live music around, so it’s a tiptop spot to hang around if you’re here for the ski season.
