Pining to get away to the pretty Peak District? From Camping at The Hollies, a farm-style site on the edge of the national park, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and get to walking or biking through valleys, woods and caverns… or mixing it up with a meander in some of the park's characterful towns such as Buxton, 20 minutes’ drive away, and Bakewell, half an hour's drive away. The backdrop here is The Roaches – just one of the good spots for those of you who are keen to go hiking, as there are more walks accessible right from the site or a short car ride away. While you’re in the local area, you may want to pay a visit to Tittesworth Reservoir, just 15 minutes’ walk away down the road and a proper watersports haven. Pubs are also on hand here to keep up the merry time – including a couple within walking distance for an easy meal out. In Hartington, 20 minutes’ drive away, there are village shops, cafés and tea rooms for a coffee and a cake (or two, depending on how far you’ve walked). Leek (five minutes’ drive) or Rudyard (15 minutes) are other local spots with shops, restaurants and pubs. On site, a few sheep and chickens roam around. There are basic facilities – on-site toilets (proper ones, not portable-style) are provided and there are four showers (bring coins for the meters if you want to use these). Firepits are provided, but they require a cash-only deposit and you'll only be allowed to burn wood purchased on site.

喜欢: The site has a beautiful view of The Roaches. It was nice and easy to find, and there are several nice pubs nearby. It's also ideally located for visiting Tittesworth Water. The owners are friendly and seemed to have a laissez-faire attitude towards campers which was refreshing. There's also a pizza van on-site offering fresh sourdough pizzas.

不喜欢: It would be nice to have a dedicated shower and toilet block, as the prefab facilities are a bit basic.

喜欢: Great site, the couple who own it are great and always around for you if you need help. The fields were very muddy so we got stuck but they came straight away to help us.

喜欢: Wonderful atmosphere, warm welcome, easy access to toilets and showers, brilliant location, quick drive to Buxton or local walks/lakes,only downside was the rain but that can’t be helped

喜欢: The area is fantastic. Walking on the doorstep.

不喜欢: Pitches are too close together. Couldn’t see any fire safety arrangements anywhere. It suggests quiet after 10pm -not a chance! Only 4 showers and 8 toilets for whole site which was packed Description said it was basic it definitely was!

来自经理: Hi Scott, it was the bank holiday weekend hun, we along with pretty much every other campsite in the country (that wasn't waterlogged) were packed. It gets me that people think they will book the bank holiday weekends and expect the place to be quiet. We hired in extra toilets to cope and have received lots of 10/10 for us this weekend. Everytime I personally went to clean them there was no waiting. Your absolutely correct, we do advertise as basic and we are ?? I don't just get that, your complaining that we are what we say we are 🤣 If you had a problem with noise why didn't you say anything? We come round the field every night...so you had 3 opportunities there and my number is also on the board as you enter the site....you know where you saw that noise down by 10pm...its right there on the same sign. Why didn't you ring or text? We don't advertise a play area for kids?? (But there is a great park for children just 10 minutes walk away) Again I'm not too sure about that comment 🤣 you can't book a campsite knowing it's basic with no play area then leave a 4 because its exactly that. Honestly 🤦‍♀️

喜欢: Everything! The site itself is a good size, with 3 (I think) fields, we stayed in field 2. We visited on May bank holiday so it was busy but that didn’t effect our stay at all. We never queued once for the toilets or showers, we hired a campfire, wood & kindling for £10. There is a pizza van on site serving breakfast and pizzas while also selling some essentials such as toothpaste & shower gel. Pizza was DELICIOUS and fairly priced (£13). Great location for amazing walks & 10 minute drive to Asda/morrisons/lidl etc. Site is dog friendly and we will definitely be visiting the site again!

不喜欢: Nothing to dislike about the site! It had been raining before we arrived so ground was slightly boggy but that’s not an issue for us at all as it’s expected anywhere :) If we were to say anything, it would maybe have hot water in the sinks to clean up dishes but no biggie, we just boiled some water up and we were good to go! :)

喜欢: Loads of space, pitch where you like, even though it was pretty full everyone was respectful and no problems with noise. Toilets clean and plentiful. Friendly owners. Pizza wagon on site over bank holiday. Great site, good location.

不喜欢: Could have done with a shelf or hook near sink, not the easiest to get washed when tiny sink and no hot water or anywhere to put things down.

In such a scenic setting, you may well spend a lot of your time outdoors … there’s a valley trail and Thor’s Cave in Manifold Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and cavern tours and woodland walks around Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes). Skip over the stepping stones at Park Dovedale & the White Peak (half an hour) or do the loop around Dovedale (half an hour), another top beauty spot. Rudyard Lake (20 minutes) is heavy on adventure too, with an activity centre, steam railway, cycle paths and boat trips. If you’re particularly daring, Madrenaline Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities such as segways, axe throwing and archery. Alton Towers (25 minutes) has many more adrenaline thrills. Family-friendly attractions are all around, including Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and the ice cream farm at Blaze Farm & The Potty Sheep (20 minutes). If it’s a peaceful place you’re after, Bakewell (half an hour) and Matlock (45 minutes) both fit the bill. The former has Bakewell puddings and a medieval bridge and the latter is a historic spa town. Biddulph Grange Garden (20 minutes), a National Trust landscaped Victorian garden, is just as peaceful.
