Like the sound of wild camping within staggering distance of a brew-pub? Pick yourself a pitch at The New Inn, a camping field in the North Yorkshire village of Cropton, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. Back to basics this campsite may be, with simple grass pitches sheltered by trees, but there are a fair few advantages thrown in to make life easy for you. For starters, there’s no need to worry about getting the stove going first thing in the morning, as breakfasts are available in the adjoining pub – what better way to start your day than with a full English and a decent cup of coffee or tea? And it's not just breakfast – delicious home-cooked dishes are served throughout the day (although if you prefer the self-catering route, barbecues are allowed on the pitches). You can also sample beers brewed at the bottom of the pub garden – tours of the brewery can be arranged with the owners on arrival at the site. Please note that facilities on site are fairly minimal – there are toilets and running water but no power, so bring torches with you from home so you can find the way back to your pitch from the pub at night.

喜欢: This is a basic site but had everything we needed. Plenty of space, welcoming pub, clean toilet. Public footpaths around or easy drive to the coast. Good value.

不喜欢: The allocation of field 1 or 2 seemed random. Field 1 looked quite busy but there were only 2 tents and a campervan in field 2 where we were. Don't think I'd have liked it as much in field 1. Bring earplugs.dawn chorus is loud

喜欢: Pub was good nice food and beer staff friendly.

不喜欢: Camping was in an exposed field and toilet block was in other field. We were on campsite 2.

喜欢: Thought it was a great little place. Basic and quiet just what was needed. Pub very friendly. Food good and ale obviously very good. Prices very reasonable.

不喜欢: Can’t help the weather. Field was a bit soft and some got stuck.

喜欢: Easy to find decent size field a bit wet but a nice gentleman to pull you out if you get stuck.Toilet block on site.The new inn pub was very nice lovely food and decent beer.

喜欢: Pub food was ok for price £16 for pie and chips. Pub staff very friendly

不喜欢: Field not suitable for motorhome as got bogged in so had to be dug out and ended up staying in pub carpark which meant we could not put awning up etc.

喜欢: Cheap. Portaloo, no light, no shower. No washing facilities for pots and pans...its a back to basics location. No pressure or stress. 30 second stumble from the pub and the drinks are cheap, food great. Pool table and darts for a good night with kids.

不喜欢: Nothing. You get what you pay for.

Camping at The New Inn puts you in prime position for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors on two legs or two wheels. You could even try travelling under steam, as trains on the vintage North Yorkshire Moors Railway leave from Pickering (10 minutes’ drive) and stop at Goathland (half an hour – and as seen in the Harry Potter films) on their way to the East Yorkshire coast. This is also a great base for families, as the thrill rides and animal encounters of Flamingo Land Resort (20 minutes) should easily keep everybody entertained all day. To run off any excess energy, spend a day on the high ropes and Segway trails at Go Ape Dalby (25 minutes), or let the kids loose on the beach at Whitby (40 minutes) or Scarborough (45 minutes). To add some culture into the mix, visit the Gothic-era minster and see how the Vikings lived at JORVIK Viking Centre in historic York (45 minutes), or mug up on World War II events at Eden Camp Modern History Museum (20 minutes). Closer to base, Pickering Castle (10 minutes) offers up exhibitions in the chapel along with wonderful views over the moors.
