Sitting pretty at the southernmost point of Snowdonia National Park, there’s really s’no escaping the back-to-nature goodness of Gwerniago Campsite, also a working farm. Whether you want a splendid location, a cracking pub or a good old-fashioned field where you can light your own off-ground campfire (and buy the wood you need on site too), pitching up at Gwerniago will tick plenty of boxes. Cycling, river walks and an array of outdoorsy activities are around the Dyfi Valley, but the real winners here are the youngsters (although big kids should enjoy getting stuck in just as much): from scoring goals in the playing field's football goal to the wooded play area complete with tree swing, this place is fit for any little explorer. Strollers and avid hikers alike will be in their element at these rural digs, as will twitchers; the farm is close to the RSPB’s Ynyshir reserve, home of the BBC’s Springwatch in past years. Grab your binoculars to spot red kites overhead and keep a beady eye out for the Dyfi osprey nest which you can spy from the site. As well as the clean and modern facilities on site, which include a shower and toilet block with solar-provided hot water (backed up by electric), new wooden footboards and nifty timed lighting as per the site’s eco-friendly policies, other touches added by the Welsh-speaking farming family owners include free access to a small kitchen with a fridge freezer, washing-up sinks and a phone charger point. Laundry facilities are also available. The farm is within walking distance of Pennal village.

喜欢: Super hosts. clean facilities plenty of walking ways. Our car broke down at night and the owners were very understanding and looked after us by providing us a caravan for a night until breakdown recovery arrived. we really appreciated their going the extra length to look after us .

喜欢: This is our second stay at the site , its such a peaceful location and great facilities , their is small wooden cabin on site with a fridge . freezer and plug sockets , also has a washer and dryer if needed . We had pitch 8 which was hardstanding with electric which was great considering all the rain we have had recently. 5min drive to Machynlleth, 15 min to the beach at Aberdyfi., will definitely be staying there again.

喜欢: The campsite was clean and the view was great. There was an excellent pub (The Riverside) within 15 minutes walk of the site.

不喜欢: Had to constantly press shower to make it work. One shower head x-threaded and meant a slight loss of power.

喜欢: Despite the previous wet weather and rain while on site they let us know where we could camp and drive- all very supportive. When it stopped raining the site dried out quickly. Toilets and showers were always clean even though it was wet and muddy. Always piping hot water, clean and dry washing up area under cover. Washing and dryer but we didn’t use them on site. Wonderful site, lovely views, perfect position- couldn’t ask for more. Thank you

喜欢: Location and layout of pitches. View was lovely. Walks on quiet country roads were nice

不喜欢: The toilets are mixed use. Men have the habit of taking huge poos and not cleaning the toilet bowl after themselves. WiFi very intermittent with heavy usage

路线方向

If travelling from north Wales via Dolgellau, cross the road by Dovey Bridge and take the Aberdovey Road (A493). The campsite is two miles from the bridge, signposted on the left, and then the first farm on the right. If travelling from Shrewbury/Welshpool, turn right by the clock in Machynlleth, then immediately left over the bridge. The campsite is on the left two miles up the road. If travelling from the south via Aberystwyth, drive straight through Machynlleth, over the bridge, immediately left and as above.

Four miles to the east is Machynlleth for the local street market on Wednesdays and getting techy at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT); it's also home to a comedy festival in the spring. Aberystwyth is about a 40-minute drive south for shops, restaurants and nights out. If you’d rather escape the towns, explore the award-winning beaches and harbours (15 minutes' drive) for fishing and strolling. The Aberdyfi estuary’s beaches and sand dunes are some of the best kept in the country, and for those who fancy a round (of golf, that is), the area is also home to an award-winning golf course. For kitesurfers and boarders, beaches at Tywyn, Borth and Fairbourne (the furthest of which is 10 miles away) should offer some exciting sporting opportunities, with some even offering tuition. Back on dry land, the Dyfi Bike Park (10 minutes) is known as one of the best mountain bike locations in all the land. If you prefer more laidback days out, take a trip to Talyllyn’s steam railway (around eight miles away) or travel from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge on the Vale of Rheidol steam railway line.
