To some it’s famed for its historic steam trains and slate caverns; to others it’s a buzzing hive of outdoorsy activities. But whatever brings you to Blaenau Ffestiniog, it's a good bet to bag a berth at Quarry View Touring Park. This quiet touring park has been set up with life’s essentials in mind: a picnic area provides a place for open-air eats, and there’s a washing-up area, chemical disposal point and a waste area with recycling bins. Likewise, the shower blocks have been thoughtfully kitted out: benches and hooks save your clobber from damp patches and shaver points and a hairdryer will keep you looking dapper. And although there's no wifi on site, the presence of three mobile phone masts nearby means that most guests should be able to access 4G services. Any amenities that aren’t on site are most likely available nearby: it takes 10 minutes or so to walk into town for shops, a cinema, pubs and takeaways or to board a train from the station (regular services run from here to Llandudno and Betws-y-Coed as well as the heritage line to Porthmadog). Also within walking distance are the adrenaline activities at Zip World Llechwedd, including the Titan zipwire and Bounce Below, both set up in repurposed slate caverns. Looking to explore further afield? An excellent idea – this nifty location is under half an hour’s drive from Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and Snowdonia National Park.

喜欢: Friendly welcome. Excellent showers and very well kept facilities. Water on pitch. Nice evening walk in the hills 5 mins over the railway.

喜欢: Well laid out site,and friendly amenities very close on hand and very clean . The local walks with the dogs was spectacular will definitely be coming back .

喜欢: Beautiful clean site, absolutely spotless. Best shower and toilet facilities I’ve seen on a campsite. Showers were powerful and always had hot water. Unique location and scenery beside the slate quarry and surrounding mountains. Small Morrisons and takeaway shops just down the road. They also deliver takeaway to the site. Site was so peaceful and Janice/Janet? who runs the site was so friendly and helpful. It’s in a fantastic location with lots of walks on its doorstep and Snowden about 20 minutes away. Less than an hour drive to Harlech, Portmerion, Porthmadog, Caernarfon. Loved our stay here and we will be next time we visit North Wales.

不喜欢: Nothing really, perhaps lack of WiFi is the only thing I can think of but 4G reception was good across the site so wasn’t that much of an issue really.

喜欢: Warm welcome from Janet on arrival, large level pitch with water and ehu. Facilities very nice and clean. Convenient for the town and shops, pubs etc (and a Kurdish bakery, well worth a visit). Zipworld Llechwedd a short walk away.

喜欢: Great value, adults only and a lovely location, stayed one night and went back for another. Site owner gave us a lovely welcome, the facilities were clean and to a good standard. No Wi-Fi but 4g signal is very strong and can easily utilise hotspot on phone.

喜欢: So quiet and peaceful, nice big pitch with hedges between so very private. Spotlessly clean toilets and showers, great information to help you enjoy the area! Great location, short walk into Blaenau town and a lovely walk to Tanygrisiau Reservoir and cafe. Will deffo be returning soon!

Even if you’re not much of a train buff, it’s worth taking a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway – the steam-powered services take in some of Snowdonia’s most spectacular scenery as they wend their way down to the coast at Porthmadog. If you’ve got an appetite for more, connect here for the Welsh Highland Railway all the way up to Caernarfon. If you’d like to explore under your own steam, there are heaps of hikes in the surrounding Snowdonia National Park – Snowdon itself is just a few miles away, or you may prefer a quieter clamber up Crimpiau from Capel Curig or a circuit of Llyn Idwal from Ogwen Cottage for something a bit less leg-busting (both routes about half an hour's drive). The site is also a few minutes’ amble from the Antur Stiniog mountain bike trails, with an uplift service that’s been tipped as the country’s best. Not enough adrenaline yet? The site is also a 10-minute stroll from Titan ZipWorld (to fly along two kilometres of zipline) and the underground adventure park in an old slate cavern at Bounce Below. Calm that heart rate a little by heading coastwards for a trip to pretty Portmeirion or a wander around the castle and beach in Harlech – both are about half an hour away by car.
