You’ll be able to take life nice and easy at Village Seasonova Bassin d’Arcachon – stay at this Aquitaine site and you’ll be living in well-equipped safari tents that are kitted out with beds and a kitchenette plus a sheltered deck with outdoor seating. It’s all ready for you to move into, so there’s no need to bring lots of kit along or spend time setting it up. The location really lends itself to relaxing times too – it’s in a quiet spot on the edge of Audenge, about 10-15 minutes’ walk from the town’s shops and restaurants and 25 minutes from the beach. That setting also puts guests within easy reach of all sorts of activities around Arcachon Bay, including canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing, surfing and seaside walks. A bike path just outside the site makes it simple to pedal down to the seaside whenever you like. You don’t actually have to leave the site to find a bit of activity though: the grounds are home to a heated outdoor swimming pool, a volleyball court and a play area, so there’s always something to do. Handy facilities also include a launderette, a wifi connection and bathroom blocks with showers. Also on site are a snack bar and a barbecue area – and of course you’ll have your own kitchenette in the tent. Don’t miss out on the chance to sample the area’s seafood though – this part of the world is well known for its excellent oysters, which you can sample in several local restaurants or from the fishermen’s huts.

Audenge is a lovely town to spend some time in – when you’re not at the beach you can head out for hikes in the surrounding countryside, take a walk on the coast path or take a dip in the seawater swimming pool. You’ll also want to look out for the tchanquées cabins, perched on stilts in the sea and a popular nesting place for local birds. Elsewhere around the bay, you might like to head out for some birdwatching in the Prés salés d'Arès et de Lège-Cap-Ferret nature reserve (25 minutes), admire the fancy houses in the Ville d’Hiver area (half an hour) or scramble through the sand at Dune du Pilat (half an hour), Europe’s tallest sand dune. To keep the kids amused for a day, try outings to feed lambs and hit the rides at La Coccinelle (20 minutes), spot bigger beasts at Zoo Arcachon Basin (25 minutes) or swish down the slides at Aqualand Bassin d’Arcachon (25 minutes). The inflatable course at Aqua Park33 (20 minutes) is likely to please mini daredevils too.
