Weave a scenic and historic Normandy holiday with a colourful stay at Camping Municipal des Bords de l'Aure, an easy riverside walk away from the town centre of Bayeux and its world-famed tapestry telling the story of the Battle of Hastings and the Norman invasion of England. More recent history can be had around the Normandy D-Day beaches, 10 kilometres away, or you could opt for the many outdoor activities in the region, like the 36-hole golf course at Omaha beach, or the horse riding and watersports centres also within 10 kilometres. Even more modernly, the Festyland amusement park is 20 kilometres away. The site has bikes to hire to take to the town or the coast. Also around for guests are an indoor pool, playground, table tennis, table football, pétanque court and volleyball court. Wifi is available throughout.

喜欢: Excellent municipal site on the edge of Bayeux (you can see the cathedral spires from the site!) Very clean and warm (!!) toilet and shower block, with toilet seats and paper, with excellent laundry and dishwashing facilities. You can buy some groceries in the reception, too. Friendly and helpful staff.

不喜欢: Nothing to dislike, maybe a bit busy for us as we prefer quieter sites but it wasn't noisy or offputting. The electricity went off in the evening, but this was down to a power problem elsewhere and nothing to do with the site itself.

喜欢: Well set out site. Motorhome pitches were adequately spacious and plenty of choice. Be aware that our initial pitch the electricity supply was too far away for our connector - however, we had no problem in switching pitches. Well situated for walking into Bayeaux. There is a path just outside the site which will take you right into the town. facilities on site were very good - very clean and well maintained. Free wifi Helpful staff - available all day.

喜欢: The staff were very helpful as I had contacted them by phone explaining that I would be arriving late from Calais due to traffic. Prior to arrival they previously sent an email explaining the details once arriving at the site. The tag to raise the barrier and instructions on my pitch with a map had been left on the reception door. The site was very clean around the whole area which also included the ablutions. It was an ideal location to travel around to see the battlefield sights and museum's. Decent facilities locally if required. WiFi had a good strength which was included in the price without any issues. The pitches were of a decent size and the site was quiet. I would fully recommend this camping sight due to its location, also being a very high standard clean site.

Take the peaceful stroll or quick bike ride from the site into the centre of Bayeux a kilometre away, home of course to the mammoth Bayeux Tapestry, the 68 metres of 11th-century tapestry depicting the Normandy invasion of England and the subsequent Battle of Hastings. Also in town is the 11th-century Bayeaux Cathedral, a British war cemetery, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy and the MAHB art museum, with paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, porcelain and Bayeux lace from throughout the centuries. Another D-Day museum is at Arromanches-les-Bains, 12 kilometres north-east of Bayeux, and the Normandy landing beaches of Omaha, Juno and Utah are all within 40 kilometres. The Caen Memorial, commemorating World War II and the Battle for Caen, is 25 kilometres away. Outdoor activities are easily sorted with local horse riding, a couple of kilometres from the site, or with watersports including paddleboarding, sailing and sea kayaking at the nearby Normandy beaches, 10 kilometres away. You could also spend a day at the Ponds of Planquery fishing pools (15 kilometres), or take the kids to the Festyland amusement park (20 kilometres), themed around the events of 1066 and all that.
