A flowery welcome awaits at Camping de la Ville Ger in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany's north-west – as do a river beach and boat trips, canoeing and seal spotting, and a bar lined with many a Breton beer to sample… sound good? Splendid holiday setting: sorted. The Rance river is a mere 100 metres from the site's setting near Pleudihen-sur-Rance, for long leisurely days of lazily basking on its gently sloping beach or swimming, fishing and canoeing in its calm waters. Several kilometres of hiking trails are alongside the river (you might spot a seal or two on the rocks in nearby Mordreuc) and the town makes a good base for visiting the attractions of the north-west coast of France, such as medieval Dinan and the famed island of Mont Saint-Michel. Brittany's capital Rennes is under 50 kilometres away. But you'll probably be waiting to hear about the Breton beers… The site bar has them as a speciality, so you can work your way through the lot throughout your holiday and then start sampling all over again, all among the spectacular river views of the bar terrace. The bar also sells snacks; barbecues are allowed on site, and supplies can be sorted in Pleudihen-sur-Rance: it should be pointed out that this is a town known for its Breton cider… A games room, playground and pétanque court are also on site; amenities include a launderette, a washing-up area with dishwashers and washrooms with toilets and hot showers.

喜欢: Rural, remote location, by a river and in a basic field so very peaceful (we were in fact the only people there on the one night we stayed, which suited us!) Friendly reception staff/owner, didn't speak much English but that was fine and posed no problems. Pretty basic facilities - just toilets, sink for washing up and a shower - but it was all clean and usable. There is a bar with plenty of local beers (88, apparently!) to choose from - nice fire going, and 2 Alsatian dogs lounging around :) Horses in the adjacent field. Extremely peaceful place to stay the night and we loved it because of this.

不喜欢: No toilet paper, seats or handwash - but that seems pretty standard for a basic site. The price was cheaper than some, so probably reflects this.

喜欢: Lovely quiet, peaceful site, with lovely views over the river/estuary. Basic facilities, but kept clean. Nice owner who keeps a great choice of beers at the bar. Would definitely use again.

不喜欢: Toilets and shower block a bit rustic and in need of regular cleaning.

喜欢: Easy booking in, great scenery and plenty of room. Bar on site is always a plus

不喜欢: Couldn't find the toilet waste disposal but might have just missed it. So just used the toilet. Site a little difficult to find at first

喜欢: Owners were friendly and helpful. Open field with marked pitches. Location near the port Basic facilities but everything was working and clean.

不喜欢: Dogs not on leads was a concern for our friend with a phobia.

You could stay close to the site for the whole of your break in this top Brittany spot, swimming or fishing in the water, basking on the beach or taking one of the hiking trails along the Rance to the likes of Mordreuc and the spotting of the seals. Travelling away from the site, most of Brittany's highlights are easily accessed from here: wander the ramparts of Dinan and Saint-Malo, nine and 16 respective kilometres away, go sea kayaking, paddleboarding and seafood (and cider) sampling at Dinard, 15 kilometres from the site, hike the Emerald Coast, under 20 kilometres away, check out the oysters of Cancale, or visit spectacular Mont Saint-Michel, 21 and 35 kilometres from Pleudihen-sur-Rance. For a family day out, the gardens, zoo, events and falconry of Château de la Bourbansais are 20 kilometres away.
