By a famed river, in the château- and vineyard-laden land of the Loire Valley, with fishing on site and a peaceful vibe all around… families looking for a restful break slap bang in the centre of France, in an area of watersports and outdoor activities alongside French heritage and culture, should settle down for a spell at Camping de l'Île. Just bordering the Loire river and a few steps from its banks, this quiet Cher department site is within walking distance of the small and handsome flowered town of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire and surrounded by Loire Valley walks and bike rides. Watersports such as kayaking are easy to access from here; if that doesn't suit the kids, you'll also be close to family days out like treasure hunting, farm visits and donkey rides to the local market. De l'Île covers five hectares of green land with lots of tall trees to pitch under. It has toilets and showers, disabled facilities, a games room and a TV room. A restaurant with lush Loire river views is a few metres from the site entrance.

喜欢: Large site in wooded area quiet as late season. TV lounge with chairs pool table fridge microwave. Walk across bridge to town center for fresh bread.

Kayaking is available within seconds of the site and many walking and cycling trails are in its surroundings. The local town of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire is within walking distance – or ask the Camping de l'Île team about donkey rides to its thrice weekly market full of fresh regional produce. From Cosne, it's about 11 kilometres to the town of Sancerre, the vineyard-surrounded village close to the border with Burgundy: perch on the hill of the village for views of the region's 300+ wine-producing yards. The Maison des Sancerre wine centre in town can give you volumes' worth of information with which to show off back home. Suggested vineyard and winery trips around the area include to the Château Favray, 1250 hectares producing Pouilly Fumé from Sauvignon Blanc grapes; Chateau de Tracy, on the slopes of the banks of the Loire; and the Caves de Pouilly-sur-Loire to Cosne's north-east. And if you're not too hot on parlezing Francais? Several English-speaking wine tours are in the region to help you sort what's what with the local vino.
