Green, peaceful and spectacularly scenic… if you're up for a serene farm stay in south-west France, make Le Domaine Vert your quiet countryside home. Take a look at the site pics to see the lush surroundings you'll be settling down in, all on a self-supporting farm founded around 1900 (and featured in the film La Fille de L'aube, for those who know their French flicks). It covers seven hectares of woodland and pastures, with stacks of space for guests to roam, a creek to wander alongside (and possibly snooze by), and Limousin cattle to greet on your farm travels. This lush Limousin land is in the Corrèze department, just over five kilometres from the village of Troche and 40 minutes' drive from Tulle. It's between two national parks: the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park less than an hour's drive west, and the Millevaches en Limousin Natural Regional Park 35 minutes to the east. Tasty treats of all types are easily sourced in the towns and villages all around the farm, but a must while you're here is a dinner or two with your amiable hosts at a table d'hôte, held several times a week in the courtyard, the covered terrace or the bodega. These are dinners from a traditional French kitchen, made from local and mostly home grown ingredients: just make a reservation using the details in your booking confirmation if you'd like to join in. Le Domaine Vert has toilets, showers, chemical disposal, and free wifi accessible near the farmhouse. Barbecues are allowed and the closest supermarkets are in Lubersac and Arnac-Pompadour, each within 15 minutes' drive. A bread service is available on site.

Village and town days are also easy to come by, such as to the peaceful centre of Correze, about 45 minutes' drive away, Brive or Brive-la-Gaillarde within 40 and Limoges within 50. There's also handsome Uzerche (20 minutes), with its spectacular Old Town on a rocky outcrop above the Vézère river, and the horse riding centre of Arnac-Pompadour, famed for the National Stud Pompadour, its stables and its castle. Both the Vézère and Dordogne rivers run through Limousin, for gentle canoe trips among this peaceful part of France.
