Since taking over in June 2014, owners Julie and Nicolas have been cultivating a friendly familial vibe at Camping Le Bloemstraete, in Renescure, halfway between Hazebrouck and St Omer, and within easy reach of Lille and Calais. Set across two hectares, plots are huge, grassy and surrounded by big hedges to keep things private yet nicely neighbourly. There's a playground surrounded by a large grassy area to kick a ball around in before sitting down to lunch at one of the picnic benches; a pétanque pitch is on site too. For barbecue food shopping you can head into the centre of the village where there's a supermarket and a butcher, and then pick up your croissants, pain au chocolat and a baguette or two at the local bakery. For when you feel you've had enough of toiling over hot charcoals, try out the village's gastro restaurant or brasserie and finish off with a few vin rouge at one of the local bars. If you fancy an off-site adventure, ask Julie and Nicolas how to get to their favourite trails and nature spots and they'll give you plenty of information about where you can go from the site on hikes and bike rides around the area.

喜欢: Nicolas, the owner couldn't do enough to help us. He booked a taxi for us and told us lots about the local area. The site itself was small but lovely. Clean, modern shower block with lots of very hot water. The grass pitches were very large and separated by hedges. The site was rustic but had a lovely atmosphere. A short walk into the village where there is a great restaurant, supermarket, snack bar and bar. Only a few minutes walk to the station but not many trains at the weekend!

不喜欢: The shower heads need replacing or descaling as there was only a trickle of water from the showers. Otherwise the sanitary block was one of the best we have been in. A few áreas needed a bit of tidying and trimming.

喜欢: The welcome and great advice from the owner of where to cycle and visit. The visit to the marshes was most enjoyed and lunch in the restaurant was good. The pitches are large - you will need a two pin adapter for the hook up if you don’t have, Nicolas the owner has a spare. There is also water on most pitches and the hedges provide privacy. You can also hire bikes. The sanitary facilities were quite modern and well laid out. Great value - ideal stop over to and from Calais (about 45 mins) with a vet nearby.

不喜欢: The sanitary block was a little messy at times, someone left a very old cloth by the door which was a trip hazard. Could have been cleaner. Old style electrics only 6 amp but worked ok.

喜欢: Friendly and helpful, Nicholas even booked us a table at his favourite restaurant in the next village as we had been travelling all day. Never met a host more helpful. Best and cleanest facilities we had come across in our travels over the 4 weeks we were traveling.

喜欢: Everything, Such a great freindly couple that run the site. Always there to help you. Clean facilities, with everything you would require. lovely village a short walk away with shops for anything you need.

喜欢: We received a very warm welcome from our hosts who gave us lots of local information. The tent pitches were very spacious and private. The facilities were very clean. The option to have fresh bakery goods delivered to your pitch in the morning is lovely. Very good value

喜欢: The owners Nicolas and Julie are lovely, they took the time to explain the local area and places to visit. The pitch sizes are very nice and surrounded on three sides by hedges. The facilities were clean and the site was very peaceful.

The huge 1,200-hectare forest of Clairmarais lies less than two kilometres away from Camping Le Bloemstraete, for scenic hikes and bike rides among its old oak trees while you keep a beady eye out for owls and grey herons. You can also trek around a trail that winds past the pond of Harchelles (built by monks) to the pilgrimage site of the Clairmarais grotto, which lies among the woodland. Then, climb aboard a bacôve (flat-bottomed marsh boat through the maze of waterways that make up the UNESCO-listed Audomarois marsh, set around the historic cultural centre of Saint-Omer. Also around this area is the Platier d'Oye nature reserve, the first feeding area for migrants birds en route to their winter homes and so an excellent spot for birdwatchers. Other good sightseeing options in the area include the World War II bunker complex of La Coupole, and the historic town of Cassel with fab historical spots such as an 18th-century hilltop wooden windmill, the cobblestoned Grand'Place, a Flemish Gothic-style church, a museum and lots of photogenic 16th-century Flemish buildings.
