Pick from one of the many trails, perhaps including one or two of the 350 kilometres’ worth of cycle networks ripe for the picking in the region... or stroll along one of paths passing by lavender fields and olive groves... or simply wander around historic villages. Sisteron under a 10-minute drive away is one such place where the past comes to life: it's famed for the citadel that towers over the town, its medieval ramparts and the 12th-century former Sisteron Cathedral; three museums are in town too if you'd like to delve into local history. And if you'd like to delve into local cuisine? Sisteron lamb (aka César lamb) is so famed it's said to be among the best on the planet: gauge for yourself whether this is true at one of the local restaurants. And then? Once your food’s settled, finish off your day with a swim in Sisteron’s Plan d'eau des Marres lake or at one of the river beaches near the site.
