If you’ve been searching a small, family-friendly campsite with spectacular views, you’ve hit the trump card with Camping Les 4 Saisons. Set in the hillside Rhône-Alpes village of Grâne, the site looks over the Drôme Valley and the peak of Roche Colombe in the distance – a summer stay here means you can add colourful lavender and sunflower fields to the mix of views as well. Site life centres on the swimming pools, which open May to mid-September. Children can play safely in the paddling pool while parents supervise them from loungers on the sun deck. A pétanque court, playground and bouncy castle are also available, and during high season (July and August), the kids’ club runs on weekdays, so your offspring can make new friends and have fun in the pool or canoeing on the Drôme River. But it’s not all about the kids – you get your dose of relaxation too. While they’re gainfully occupied at kids’ club, why not chill in the solarium or join an aqua gym class? And come nightfall, entertainment includes live music, disco nights and themed suppers. Talking of supper, handy services to make life easy include bread and pastry delivery services, plus a bar and restaurant serving wood-fired pizzas and local specialities on the panoramic terrace – so that’s catering sorted. And if you feel like a quiet day pottering about, hang out with a good book from the library corner in the TV room.

喜欢: spotless ! so homey they provide the little things you tend to forget! super helpful even when pitch up said check in is till 7pm when actually it’s 5pm, they come to help us in and didn’t leave us stranded haha! the views are exceptional and the cafe and info centre are brilliant to provide everything you need. It’s super quiet and peaceful and the site dog is just adorable!

喜欢: The restaurant served good food, nicely presented and very quickly delivered. there was a singer and pianist the night we were there and it was a pleasant, friendly atmosphere. Good English spoken in reception and all staff very friendly easy access to pitches

不喜欢: Entrance to site needs better signage. Long vehicles need to be careful on approach. Top terrace was very windy on the days we were there but when the sun was out it was lovely. Lower levels were more sheltered but appeared difficult to get to with a long caravan.

喜欢: La vue exceptionnelle et la piscine

不喜欢: Les sanitaires: nombre insuffisant et pas fort agréables (propreté limite, odeur et impossible d'obtenir de l'eau froide dans les douches 'boullaintes'). La gestion du camping: j'ai eu la malchance d'avoir pdt plusieurs jours comme voisins la famille 'bidochons' qui avait décidé de faire tourner son air-co de caravane bas de gamme (genre crécelle) 24/24, de quoi vous agacer copieusement. Malgré mes demandes répétées auprès du personnel du camping, rien n'a été fait pour expliquer quelques notions de respect à ces gèneurs - mauvais expérience qui m'a laisser un sentiment mitigé sur ce camping.

From the D104, continue for as long as possible until you see the signs for 'Camping les 4 Saisons'. Follow the signs carefully to avoid arriving through the narrow historic centre (this is a route that is often suggested by GPS).

Active families keen to get moving can follow hiking trails like the Sentier du Castor hugging the Drôme River (15 minutes’ walk), or hire canoes and kayaks to paddle upstream. Cyclists and mountain bikers have the pick of 18 official ‘La Drôme a Velo’ routes – try the scenic Col de Rousset (two hours and 40 minutes by bike), while biking novices might prefer to try for Crest (half an hour), have a breather and admire its 13th-century tower. For more outdoor family fun, organise a day on the zipwires and treetop ropes at Tree Forest Robin (20 minutes’ drive), or have a bump around when zorbing at the 100% Club (25 minutes). And if you want to treat the kids after all that running about, fill them up with chocolate from the Palace of Sweets and Nougat (half an hour). When exploring pretty Drôme Valley villages by car, start off in Cliousclat (20 minutes) and buy some of the glazed local pottery as souvenirs, and then head for the hilltop village of Mirmande (15 minutes), which has ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ status for its medieval ramparts and cobbled streets lined with art galleries and workshops.
