Just simply smashing… Calabrian site Camping Lungomare, set deep in a pine forest, is only a few steps from its own private stretch of white sand beach and the sparkling clear Ionian waters famed on this part of coast. Parasols and sun loungers can be hired from the end of June until the end of August, so settle down loungelike with a drink for mornings and afternoons on the sands: enormous umbrella in drink optional but highly recommended… Break up such serious relaxation occasionally with an amble to the Anfiteatro Bar for a drink with friends and family, or to crank things up a notch at the free entertainment and activities laid on by the site team in July and August. A football pitch and a playground are also around for more free-range entertainment. Camping Lungomare has modern toilet blocks, a laundry room and washing-up facilities.

You might not want to get off that white sand beach seconds away from the site, but if you do fancy investigating the area, a fair bit to see and do is available without travelling too far. Horse riding, canoeing, diving, snorkelling and hiking are among the many active options nearby, and several old towns and cities are easy to get to if you'd rather pass peaceful cultural times. Camping Lungomare's closest historic urban centre is Cropani, the old spot with medieval city centre and spectacular views over the Squillace Gulf and the Ionian Sea (you will very much want to bring a camera). Also have a look at Santa Severina and its medieval centre, Le Castella and its Aragonese castle, and Capo Colonna, the promontory where once stood an ancient temple dedicated to Hera Lacinia. The Doric column of the temple is its last remaining standing column: you will very much want to bring a camera here too.
