Pretty, pretty, mighty pretty.... that's the setting you get around Camping Tres Estrellas Mequinenza in the Aragon province of Zaragoza. And why? Because it's a riverside site close to the watery region known as the Aiguabarreig, the viewsome landscape where three rivers (the Cinca, the Segre and the vast Ebro) meet: there's birdwatching and nature spotting all around, boat trips to take, scenic cycling and hiking to set forth on... and fishing of all sorts at the local rivers and on site. Camping Tres Estrellas Mequinenza's friendly staff can help you plot your adventures around the region (adventures are aplenty, so you may need some tips). Elsewhere, there's a play area and a tennis court for leisurely pursuits on site, and loads of space for you to find your own serene spot by the water – perhaps for a picnic utilising the local honey, jam, olive oil and beer on sale from the site...? Guests also have free access to the public pools of local town Mequinenza less than a kilometre away, with their views of the Segre and the mountains.

The Aiguabarreig area a couple of kilometres away is one of Spain's protected natural sites and the biggest river confluence on the Iberian Peninsula. Its riverbeds, forests, lakes, streams and reeds are a haven for birdwatching and nature spotting, where the keen eyed can spot kingfishers, birds of prey, deer, otters and wild goats: take a wander around to see what you can see. The small and handsome town of Mequinenza within simple strolling distance is a good place for historians to potter, to see its 14th and 15th-century castle, once an Arab fortress; its Old Town on the left bank of the Ebro, and the Museums of Mequinenza with their museums on local mining, history and prehistoric times. This is prime fishing territory too, especially for catfish in the Ebro and the Ribarroja reservoir; anglers come from all over the world to fish in these parts.
