  • Adults-only site for fishing enthusiasts
  • Excellent base for the Yorkshire Dales
  • In a wildlife haven among lakes and grassland
Lakes and dales, dales and lakes – and a whole heap of wildlife. Burtree Lakes Caravan Park five minutes from Bedale is between the Yorkshire Moors and North York Moors national parks, in a wildlife haven and scenic setting among 28 acres of lakes and grassland. The market town of Bedale is within five minutes' drive for shops and eats. And there's a whole heap of fishing and wandering here too. Burtree has two lakes, the Kingfisher one for fishing where you can catch a couple of carp, and the Wildlings lake towards the park boundaries, a scenic setting for walking and wildlife watching. The park is adults only – and pet friendly: a designated dog exercise area is on site as well as several suitable trails.

Local attractions

Bedale is a five-minute drive from Burtree Lakes Caravan Park (markets are on Tuesdays). It's one of the stops on the Wensleydale Railway, running along to Redmire via Leyburn, and has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a small museum. Just out of town on the road to Leyburn is the Bedale Golf Club; another, Akebar Golf Club is also five minutes' drive from the site. Also recommended by the Burtree Lakes team is Brymor Ice Cream's parlour and café at High Jervaulx Farm in the hills of lower Wensleydale, 15 minutes from the site, and another market town in Leyburn where there's a Friday market and a few art galleries. Just outside Leyburn is Bolton Castle or the Forbidden Corner, a famed attraction that was originally built as a folly and is now an award-winning family attraction full of statues and odd buildings. The Corner bills itself as 'the strangest place in the world' – go along to see if you agree. Twelfth century Middleham Castle is open to the public and is at nearby Wensleydale.
