Can’t decide between town and country? The location of Tin and Canvas Glamping means you don’t need to make a decision – this rural site is set in a two-acre meadow but it's still only a few minutes' walk from Pickering High Street. Located down an old carriage track, it’s a peaceful spot that's not on any roads; it's likely you won’t find another site so central to Pickering with resident owls and such a countryside vibe. This is a rustic glamping experience for those who want to get away and connect with others and mother nature. The site tries to be eco-friendly, so there are composting toilets in each unit and the use of two LPG showers made from vintage, salvaged and characterful materials. There are no brick/modern toilet or shower blocks and no wifi, but there's good mobile phone signal. Stays here have access to lots of places to eat out – and you can forget about the car as there are no long walks back to base. It also offers a lot to railway buffs… surrounded by mature trees, the meadow is right next door to a station on the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Only the meandering Pickering Beck sits between you and the track – so you can bag a train ride across the moors or just appreciate the hiss of steam as a train puffs out of the station. Pickering also makes a smashing base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors as well as lovely Roman-and-medieval York (45 minutes). Just one word of warning though: the camping meadow runs alongside Pickering Beck and in the (very) rare event of a flood, guests will be reimbursed for any lost nights or alternative dates offered – the site owners are signed up to the Environment Agency’s flood-alert system. Guests will need to bring their own bedding and towels. Top sheets, throws and everything else you need to eat, cook and drink are provided.

Disliked: The site was not secure with only a wooden gate that didn't lock. For the price the facilities were poor particularly the showers. Dont mind a composting toilet but being asked to empty it by tying up the bag, yeeuk. The bell tents were nicely furnished and comfortable, broken zip through didn't make it easy for entry and exit. No sign whatsoever of the host, no meet n greet just texts and notes put through the tent. Overall disappointed for the cost.

Each time I was at the glamp site you were out and about, I kindly moved you from the smaller off grid tent you had bkd into the larger tent at no extra cost, and nowhere does it say or ask you to empty your compost bag? It clearly says please tie the top and leave it? Our showers are made from recycled vintage zinc, doors and stained glass windows and other guests have commented what good showers they are, I do hope you have luck in finding a glamp site to suit your taste, the zip was not broken when you arrived, I just wish you had rung or text me to raise your comments on your review and the gates do shut but we are not in the habit of locking guests in. As our pictures show we are a rustic glamping site, a hidden 2 acre meadow right in the centre of Pickering, due to the beauty of the meadow we cannot build permanent brick buildings for showers and loos so we offer rustic eco friendly ones that can easily be removed allowing the meadow to return to its natural state and to preserve the wild life. Carry on Canvas bell tent

Liked: Everything ! The bell tent was lovely outside cooking area was great campers kitchen spot on and no grumbles at all . Loved the outside shower and all the little quirks of the campsite. High St was within walking distance and pickering Festival was on so we enjoyed a pub crawl. Favourite pub was the sunn Inn which is a right from the campsite and a 5 minute walk. We will return we loved it ❤️ the owner of the site was so helpful and brought us ice packs each day as the temp was scorching Thanks our stay was amazing

Liked: The campsite was small, quiet and safe. Our two year old loved seeing the chickens and the steam train. The yurt was the perfect size and clean with all the things we needed The cooking tent was ideal for us to be able to have separate space while the little one slept. Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This was a lovely location with spacious pitches very private and peaceful. We had good communication via text and a warm welcome on arrival. We did not use toilet facilities as we brought our own. It was lovely to hear the trains next door, we had come for the Steam Gala and the wildlife at night. The town centre was literally yards away and we had a lovely meal at the Bay Horse pub. Would love to come again hopefully next year.

Pickering is home of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, so how about a scenic ride on a steam locomotive through gorgeous North York Moors landscapes? You can hop off at Goathland (20 minutes’ drive) to tread in Harry Potter’s footsteps, or stay on the train until it hits Whitby (approximately an hour and 50 minutes, or 30 minutes by car) and explore its abbey, fishing harbour and seafood restaurants. Of course, you may prefer to discover the moors by car – pretty villages include Thornton-le-Dale (10 minutes) and Ampleforth (half an hour) with its gorgeous abbey, while Malton (15 minutes) is a good stop off for foodies, with microbreweries, delis and plenty of dining options. If you’re holidaying with kids, the Yorkshire coast is famous for its resorts; pick one that suits you best of Scarborough (35 minutes, sandy beaches) or Bridlington (50 minutes, speedboat rides and amusement arcades). Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
The site will send you further check-in information 2 day(s) before your arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 14 day(s) of arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
