  • Clifftop site with sea views a mile from Whitby town centre
  • Easy access to walks on the coast path and in the North York Moors
  • Playground, games room, shop, bar and café on site
Splendid, spectacular and famed Whitby… known for the Whitby Regatta, lipsmacking fish and chips, a fanged Transylvanian count and of course the Whitby Goth Weekend, where hordes of alternatively-dressed folk descend upon town twice a year to follow in Dracula's footsteps: how fab. Near all this for family hols is Whitby Holiday Park, a mile from the harbour and town centre of Whitby on the clifftop overlooking Saltwick Bay. As well as the town and its ancient attractions, miles of beaches are easy to get to from here, along with tiptop walking and cycling on the coast path or in the North York Moors National Park. The site's facilities include a bar, a café serving hot meals and homemade cakes to get your teeth into for eating in or taking away. There's also a playground, a games room and a shop selling groceries, newspapers, wines and spirits. Among the amenities are washrooms with showers, toilets and accessible facilities; a launderette and a parent and baby bathroom. The park has free wifi.

Local attractions

Whitby first, natch, for its many attractions old and new including Whitby Abbey, the Captain Cook Museum with HMS Endeavour replica, the harbour, art galleries, old pubs and award-winning seafood restaurants. Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington are all easy to flit to from here. Swimming, rockpooling and fossil hunting at local beaches should be next; after that, make it your mission to hike part of the Cleveland Way, the 110-mile coastal path that runs next to the site. A mile away, walking and cycling can be had on the Cinder Track, the former Scarborough-to-Whitby railway line. Another top local option is Robin Hood's Bay, four miles away, a North Yorkshire fishing haven day and night where specimens of up to 20lb have been landed. Horse riding is within the same distance, or you could have a puff on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, running for 18 miles through splendid moors scenery from Grosmont to Pickering via Goathland. Brought your bike? Tackle the trails from England's largest mountain bike trail centre at Dalby Forest, 15 miles away.
