  • Family-friendly glamping in the Perthshire Highlands
  • A 20-minute drive to Tay Forest Park and 10 minutes to Dunkeld
  • Self-catering glamping pods with wifi, kitchen facilities and bathroom
Pining for the fresh country air and desperate to unwind from daily life? There can be few finer places than the Scottish Highlands, the land of glens and lochs… In the Perthshire countryside, alongside the cascading River Tay, a taste of Highland living can be found at Tayview Lodges, a family-friendly glamping site for holidaymakers who'd like their outdoor time served up with an extra slice of luxury. Within a 10-minute drive of Pitlochry and Dunkeld, and 20 minutes from Aberfeldy, these self-catering glamping pods all have wifi, kitchen facilities and private bathrooms as well as the comfy sleeping areas. This dog-friendly glamping site is well-situated for those who adore adventure, but also look forward to a steaming shower to wash away the day's dirt, and a secluded terrace to rest aching limbs while contemplating the countryside. And there’s certainly plenty of scope to get mucky around here – couples and families alike can march over the surrounding mountains, forests and hills, or dare to race down mountain tracks on mountain bikes. The park is within 10 minutes' drive of independent shops for every essential to fuel the day's activities – or haggis, shortbread, and Cullen skink if you’d really like to dine like a local. Handily, there are also several bars and restaurants within a 20-minute drive for when you’d rather leave the chopping and simmering to the professional chefs and save up on time for snoozing.

Ordie 3 bedroom lodge (pet friendly)

Liked: Large cabin well laid out. 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms. Well equipped kitchen. Easy to use heating system. We saw red squirrels. The cabin was lovely and clean and well presented. I feel it was great value for money.

Disliked: Plenty parking but this is about 40 meters from the lodge so wasn’t ideal lugging all our stuff in, in the rain. The smaller of the sofas is a bit beaten so was uncomfortable. Some of the crockery and utensils needed to be washed before we could use them. The HDMI port on the TV was unserviceable so we could not connect our device to the TV. We feel that the 10am (as per signage) check out is early and this site states 10:30am. The WiFi struggled to reach the cabin and disconnected repeatedly.

Tummel 3 bedroom lodge (no pets)

Liked: Lovely views well positioned bird\squirrel feeders that you can see from every room so you can even see the squirrels while washing up. Nice walk in the woods. Dunkeld only a few minutes away in the car with shops and places to eat. Plenty of longer walks nearby like the Hermitage. We weren't there for the wi-fi but be aware it is a bit sporadic and the 4g drops in and out but this type of holiday is about getting away from it all. Pack plenty of games or a book.

Local attractions

Be prepared to get down and dirty in the day, and leave the luxury for the evening, because Highland Perthshire’s lochs and the mighty River Tay have spawned several local outdoor activity centres for all sporting endeavours, from water rafting to canoeing and kayaking or slipping and sliding your way along the River Tay with The Canyoning Company (10 minutes). If you prefer to let the fishing line do the hard work, the River Tout has bounties of salmon and brown trout. Those unlucky in fishing but exacting in their aim may also want to follow in the footsteps of golfing legends at the Gleneagles course (40 minutes). Newbies wanting to practise their swing can tackle the more basic courses at Pitlochry (10 minutes), Blairgowrie Rosemount (30 minutes), or Dunkeld (10 minutes) golf courses. You can also tour Perthshire's lochs, woodlands, and plains by foot, beginning with hunting down the breeding ospreys at the Loch of the Lowes (10 minutes), before moving into the towering oaks and firs of Tay Forest Park (20 minutes).
