  • On the banks of the Lot with a sandy beach area
  • Pool, tennis court, pétanque court and playground
  • Hire canoes to visit local villages and vineyards
The lovely lovely Lot river, meandering for a whopping 481 kilometres through valleys and gorges, past castles, medieval towns and limestone cliffs… if you can picture yourself canoeing placidly on its waters, having launched your vessel from a sandy riverside beach steps from your pitch, then you'll find Camping Les Vignes a rather fab French pick. This family-friendly site is right on the banks of the Lot, with its own sandy beach where guests can bask, swim from or launch those canoes to drift off down the river (organised canoe excursions run in the summer if you'd rather not be solitary). More scenic days await away from these lush grounds too: take one of the summer bike tours, or pedal off at your own pace through the Lot valley and Cahors wine region on the peaceful Véloroute trail. Camping Les Vignes is a green and friendly site, three kilometres from Puy-l'Évêque. Its peaceful setting comes with big shaded grass pitches and a heated outdoor pool for all ages, as well as sporty options for most sizes including ping pong tables and courts for tennis and pétanque. There's a playground too to keep the kids busy, and a common room with games, library and TV for afternoons indoors. Summer sees entertainment on site such as live music evenings, wine tasting sessions and dance nights, held at the restaurant open in July and August. Guests can buy groceries at the mini market, have a continental brekkie at the bar, or settle down on the terrace of the snack bar for meals under a sunny sky.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Very good site, not over crowded, excellent owners, nothing too much trouble. Showers and toilets were very well cleaned every day. Great location for visiting different towns and places of interest. Would definitely recommend and re visit.

Disliked: On occasion some unruly unsupervised children in the pool area. Would recommend ensuring an adult with all children at all times when in the pool.

Liked: Hot showers

Disliked: Karaoke until 1.00am blaring out across site night we arrived. Pitches VERY close together. Disorganised, scruffy. Dirty pool. Shop was a bad joke, nearest proper shops are a fair distance away so they should make more effort. Bar area very unwelcoming, with staff more interested in chatting with each other than making any kind of effort to serve/greet. We cut our stay short, couldn’t get away quick enough.

From the manager: As difference to other campsites, during summer, we organize only 2 evening music events (on monday and thursday) + Petanque challenge. This is displayed on the programm on the wall at the reception and bar. Usually people appreciate the ambiance of such events. We are sorry that you were disturbed by the noise.

From the manager: We are happy that you enjoyed your stay in our campsite with the river, rides on bike, lovely villages. We are sorry that you missed the feu d'artifice and some other things to do around. Did you have a look, in the play room,on the flyers for activities ? There are a lot depending on how far you want to go.

Local attractions

Hire a canoe to take off for a day's exploring on the waters of the Lot or along its banks on the scenic Véloroute around local vineyards and villages. Fishing is available from the site. Les Vignes is a few kilometres from Puy-l'Évêque, in the centre of the Cahors AOC wine region (and well represented in the French wine trade). You can take a bus from Puy-l'Évêque through spectacular scenery along the Lot river and all the way to Cahors, to see its gardens and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pont Valentre. If it's châteaux you're after, drive for 25 minutes to reach Château de Bonaguil, the last of the fortified medieval castles built in France. Or travel half an hour north to Villefranche-du-Perigord, a bastide town towards the south of the Dordogne department: Château de Biron and Château de Gavaudun are both a little west of here.
